Job Summary
Within Equinix, the Network Modernization Architecture and Platform (NMAP) team is chartered with:
- Build and operationalize the foundational Next Generation Network Platform with a focus on modernizing the network stack, and enabling Network Programmability by building custom network software that provides Network as a Service to product teams building capabilities on top of it.
- Delivering industry thought leadership and building closer engagement with the developer community in areas relevant to networking.
- Evaluating next-generation networking technologies and developing an evolution roadmap and target architectures for the network technology stack (routing, switching, software networking) in close collaboration with the Office of the CTO (OCTO)
Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance and collaborate with stakeholders to develop target network architectures
- Actively participate in the development of next-generation network stack, supporting and learning from senior technical leaders of the team
- Facilitate cross-stakeholder discussions to ensure alignment on network requirements and design trade-offs, while considering performance, scalability, and reliability factors
- Contribute to next-generation networking proof of concept projects in close collaboration with partners (e.g Office of the CTO) to deliver tangible outcomes that guide new technology investments and implementation decisions for network technology stack evaluation
- Act as a key technical liaison internally and externally, engaging with customers, partners, forums and open source developer communities to gather insights, share expertise, and stay informed about industry trends and advancements
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with distributed tracing technologies and service mesh implementations: Jaeger, Istio, or other open-source alternatives
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey findings, recommendations, and technical details to various stakeholders
- Strong experience in building & operating highly reliable distributed systems
- Recent and Proficient experience with Java, Golang (Go), React, HTML/CSS, and Bootstrap for backend API development and frontend UI development
- Strong understanding of containerization and orchestration technologies: Docker, Kubernetes, Rancher, or other open-source alternatives
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve distributed system issues
- Experience in working with network management protocols: Netconf, SNMP, and gRPC
- Solid understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and their applications
- Proficient in using continuous integration and continuous deployment technologies: Jenkins or Github actions
- Proficient in data management systems and technologies: PostgreSQL, Apache Kafka, Redis, Neo4J
- Knowledge of open-source networking technologies like SONiC and OpenFlow, as well as their integration through Kafka/REST APIs is a plus
- A proactive and collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams, ensuring seamless integration of NAAS solutions
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging technologies: Prometheus, Grafana, and Splunk
The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:
- San Francisco, CA / Bay Area: $143,000 to $235,000
- California (Non-SF/Bay Area), Connecticut, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Washington state: $137,000 to $225,000
- Colorado, Nevada, Rhode Island: $124,000 to $204,000
Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.
This position may be offered in other locations. Your recruiter can share more about the specific pay range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
