With Bench Tax we allow our customers to ditch the tax season stress, forever. We're a startup within a startup; a small but mighty team working cross-functionally within Bench to deliver accurate tax returns and positive outcomes for our customers.

What you'll be getting up to:

At the core of everything we do is our customers. As a Sr. Quality Assurance Tax Professional with Bench Tax, you will obsess over delivering accurate and complete Tax Returns to our customers. You will strive to deliver positive tax outcomes for our customers through reviewing every prepared return and provide feedback on how we can continuously improve our processes and systems. You are passionate about mentoring new Benchmates as they learn the role and strive to improve their tax knowledge.

Customer Obsession

• Ensures that every customer is being presented with the highest quality Tax Return possible that is optimizing for the best tax outcomes
• The Tax Return has been reviewed against customer information including Bench's Year End Bookkeeping, Prior Year Return, internal notes, and supporting documentation
• Engages with the Bench Tax Advisor to ensure all tax advisory outcomes for the customer has been included within the Tax Return
• Ensures that every customer who requires an extension has been completed, working in partnership with other members of the Bench Tax Team

Ownership

• Works in partnership with the Tax Preparation Professionals to update the Tax Return draft when there are errors or updates required
• Works in partnership with the Tax Preparation Professionals, Income Tax Advisors and Tax Coordinators to ensure that they have all the information necessary to provide a complete and accurate return
• Be accountable for providing Subject Matter Expert tax advice, resources, and documentation to fellow Benchmates
• Provides structured feedback to the Tax Preparation Professionals about the quality of the Tax Return to improve the overall quality and speed of Bench prepared Tax Returns
• Files the Tax Return once the customer has approved the draft return with their Tax Advisor

• Does not settle for "good enough" and always ask and provides feedback about how we can keep getting better
• Participate with the Bench Tax Teams to continuously improve the overall service delivery in the pursuit of being completely obsessed with positive client outcomes and accuracy
• Assists in the onboarding of new Benchmates
• Assist in the resolution of client escalations and work with fellow Benchmates to find solutions to improve the client experience
• Approaches every day with a continuous improvement and growth mindsets

To be successful in this role, you'll need to:

• Active and up to date PTIN
• All About Continuous Improvement: At minimum, is comfortable working in a space where iterative improvements to enhance our customers' experience is paramount.
• Staying up to date with changes in the US Tax Code (and tax laws of other state/local municipalities)
• Committed to maintaining annual continuing education requirements (CPEs)
• +2 years of applicable experience preparing and reviewing tax returns for individuals and all business entity types, either prepared by themselves or members of their team
• Licensed as an active Enrolled Agent or CPA. License is current, active and in good standing
• Own the tax return accuracy for our customers: Be able to deliver Bench's tax return service through the following:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

In order to do so, this individual must be able to step into the space where they'll act as a voice for new opportunities to strategically improve our service offerings, whether that's breadth or depth of the services.
• Mentorship & Training: Has experience with ongoing mentorship and training, to a broad range of people with varying experiences, in the space of US tax. Is fully dedicated to leveling up the Bench Tax team to ensure we have all of the latest information related to the tax services we're providing to our clients. Can step into a supporting role where broad tax training is delivered to all client facing Benchmates.
