This position is responsible for the development, review, approval and implementation of product packaging and labelling components for global package compliance for all Alchemee brands (including Proactiv). Senior Manager is responsible for managing the logistics between Brand Marketing, New Product Development, Supply Chain, and Operations teams to ensure that products are launched on time and within budget. Must comply with legal and regulatory requirements; many items have drug fact labels.


The ideal candidate is an active listener with strong interpersonal communication skills as well as a natural collaborator who can ask and give feedback to both business owners, and internal and external stakeholders. This person has a passion for bringing best practices into the business while actively sharing business perspectives, knowledge and lessons learned to contribute and support a best-in-class global standard.


Essential Functions

  • Maintain product & package development management system that ensures consistency and maintenance. Coordinates and tracks review of product packaging and labeling developed for the company. Maintains archive of all labeling components, organizing documentation and artwork files.
  • Reviews artwork and finished product specifications.
  • Identify, qualify, and implement new emerging packaging technologies to improve products’ perceived value, performance, or cost.
  • Oversee the enhancements to current packaging and/or develop new custom packaging.
  • Execute and manage Cost of Goods to target objectives and time constraints with Supply Chain.
  • Oversee costing of new product COGs to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Manage complex projects and deliver innovative packaging solutions within the appropriate timelines.
  • Assist in prioritizing and managing department workload to meet deadlines for multiple products and lines simultaneously, while ensuring that resources are qualified.
  • Recognize cost constraints that may impact the ability to deliver desired product, i.e. identifying alternate packaging or suppliers.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.
  • Review Bill of Materials and any subsequent changes, as needed.
  • Manage routing process including feedback from clients and resolving issues, preflight projects, including review of proofs, color correction and production changes.
  • Communicate clearly (verbally and in writing) with packaging suppliers to obtain capability, pricing, lead times, specifications, and samples as needed by Package Development Team.
  • Work closely with cross functional teams to communicate new product introductions, changes, quality control issues and test results with internal and external vendors.
  • Act as a liaison with internal and external parties on matters relating to the procurement of new products, including international requirements and regulatory changes.
  • Responsible for measuring costs associated with each initiative as well as the management of the Product & Package Development budget.
  • Creates and updates packaging (including tubes, bottles, cartons, shippers) that fits with brand positioning and complies with regulatory, legal and supply chain requirements.
  • Identify the gaps in the product and package development systems and help develop standard operating procedures.


Education, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


  • Strong vendor relationships.
  • Proven ability to work with multiple external agencies.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, detail-oriented with excellent follow-through abilities, ability to work in fast paced environment and efficiently work with vendors and internal departments while prioritizing workload.
  • Six to Eight years of creative and content experience for a consumer product, ideally as part of an in-house creative team or at an ad agency is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Visual Arts, Packaging or similar discipline is required. OTC packaging experience a benefit.
  • Four to Five years of experience managing a team of packaging teams is required.
  • Expertise in translating brand positioning to effective packaging.
  • Self-directed with excellent time management skills.
  • Design proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, “mobile first” design across channels, preferred.
