Job Overview And Responsibilities
The purpose of the Senior Manager IT, Application Development position is to lead a development team in the continued design and development of Technical Operations tools. This position will collaborate extensively with our business partners to design, develop, and integrate user interfaces and services that meet the business needs. This position will have a strong focus on Agile development, thinking out of the box, and robust technology delivery with the ability to influence innovation within the Tech Ops space.
  • Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing project tasks on schedule and by interacting and mentoring junior and senior level developers
  • Accountable for administrative management of 5-10 IT professionals, either as direct reports or sourced – HR administration, Time Reporting, etc.
  • Must be able to document code and implement code quality tools
  • Provide leadership by establishing department and individual’s goals
  • Responsible for assessing and recommending improvements to the organization structure, roles, and responsibilities
  • Ensure IT application development process disciplines (solution delivery, project management, work requests, QA, etc.) and standards are established, effectively managed, and performed
  • Play a key role in formulating and following the procedures for test driven development
  • Must be adaptable to changing designs and to adding performance enhancements
  • Play a key role with initiatives for modernization of the existing applications
  • Collaborate with developers and business users to design, develop, and integrate user interfaces and services that meet business needs with focus on safety, service, and compliance
  • Responsible for continuous improvement initiatives to address needs for our engineering, compliances, records, and technicians
  • Learn latest tools and standards to make applications resilient and scalable while mentoring junior developers
Qualifications
Required
  • At least 4-6 years of technical leadership experience in managing multiple, large, cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior level management and key stakeholders
  • Responsible and Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
  • In-depth applied knowledge of agile software development methodologies (e.g. Scrum, Kanban, XP, etc.)
  • Proven expertise in design and implementation of highly complex IT solutions
  • Awareness of industry best practices, research to drive innovative solutions
  • Involves managing and negotiating contracts, statements of work and financials
  • Requires advanced technical and business knowledge for a secure software development life cycle (SDLC) framework, quality assurance, project and product management and other related disciplines/processes
  • Vendor Management – The ability to manage external vendor relationships professionally, to United’s best interests
  • Robust understanding for application security and vulnerability essentials, PII, identity and access management (IAM), OWASP top 10.
  • Ability to work independently and self-motivate
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with proven track-record of ownership and delivery
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Engineering
  • A passion for details and quality in delivery
  • +5 years of application development experience (object-oriented programming experience, ASP.NET, .Net, REST, MVC, SQL, JavaScript…etc.). Experience managing CI/CD pipelines
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, interpersonal, collaboration, written and verbal communication skills to clearly present ideas to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong knowledge and experience migrating applications from on-prem to cloud
What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Airline/MRO Experience is a plus
  • MS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems, or another related field
  • Experience managing offshore/nearshore resources/teams
