The Opportunity
As the HRBP Senior Director, you will lead and drive the support of HR projects/initiatives, policies and procedures, compensation strategy and planning, and act as primary HR business partner (HRBP) lead for assigned group(s). You will be responsible for providing direction and support for high level staffing/recruiting functions. You must have a good understanding of people as you will address development needs and performance management of employees. In this role, you must also possess great leadership skills, as you will be reporting to Executive Director with minimal supervision or direction, and often provide direction to your own team. You will regularly interact with other senior level internal and external personnel (eg, Board of Directors, external auditors, regulators), and frequently interact with Ally Senior Leadership.
The Work Itself
  • Act as a coach and mentor to leaders by offering creative solutions to sensitive issues using a multi-disciplined approach.
  • Create and manage successful employees by promoting initiative and positive development.
  • Evaluate and analyze data and information from HR will report to determine HR issues impacting the business unit.
  • Ensure that investigations are thorough and include: understanding of the allegations, appropriate interviews, analysis, documentation and recommendations for conclusion and course of action.
  • Serve as trusted advisor and valued business partner to executive leadership and their teams.
  • Partner with Finance to ensure headcount and business plan alignment.
  • Applies relevant regulations, policies and procedures to business issues and day to day responsibilities.
  • Design strategies, plans and approaches, convening key stakeholders and champions, building broader organizational understanding and ownership, and continuously facilitating learning and opportunities to improve and adapt.
  • Act as a leader - Facilitate effective group interactions that exert influence and create positive change.
  • Drive performance management culture including management and employee development initiatives.
  • Remain hands-on by driving change management and process improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition team on recruitment needs for business.
  • Provide compensation guidance in alignment with Ally's pay for performance culture and support annual compensation planning process.
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues.
  • Responsible for staff function of a specific role of a business unit or key functional area of high complexity and/or large scale.
  • Design and develop strategic plans using business knowledge and execute strategies and methods in alignment with enterprise goals and HR policies and practices.
  • Coach and develop all aspects of their team’s abilities.
The Skills You Bring
  • SPHR recommended.
  • Excellent listening, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Superior knowledge of employment law; independently manages complex ER issues.
  • Ability to use judgment, creativity and sound technical knowledge to obtain and recommend solutions.
  • Routinely asked to communicate complex ideas to larger groups on behalf of business unit or function.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in HR or related field; Master’s recommended.
  • Demonstrated experience providing creative solution to address HR challenges and implications of the organization business strategies.
  • Ability to use professional concepts and company policies and procedures to solve a wide range of difficult problems in imaginative and practical ways.
  • Strong relationship management skills with experience in partnering with coaching and building credibility with senior leaders.
  • 10+ years of experience.
  • Ability to manage performance, coach and mentor; provide training preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience in talent management and human resources business partner, employee relations, or compensation.
