Missouri S&T seeks a highly motivated, professional and organized Senior Grant Writer/Proposal Developer in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation (VCRI). This position serves a critical role by assisting Early Career Faculty succeed in their research endeavors. The nature of this position is continually evolving to meet the needs of the faculty. The ideal candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment and will maintain professional integrity in a fast-paced environment with frequent demands and changes.

Typical roles include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform other duties as needed, such as maintaining database of illustrators, internal RPRM review/internal competitions, participate in Award Capture Team monthly meetings, editing congressional white papers, and drafting strategic communication for the unit/VCRI
  • Supports early-career faculty members in writing responsive research proposals by assisting with project management of the proposal process and narrative development assistance, including creation and maintenance of proposal development timeline, assigning and tracking team member content responsibilities and assisting with content collection and document version control
  • Identifies funding opportunities specific to early-career faculty by utilizing multiple online tools and by maintaining contact with and knowledge of various agencies and organizations
  • Develops and facilitates programs enabling early-career faculty members’ research funding success (including professional development programs, mentoring programs, and formal review programs)
  • Promotes funding opportunities specific to early-career faculty by maintaining a current listing of all early-career faculty and their contact information and by distributing pertinent opportunities and recommending potential matches
  • Acts as a point-of-contact resource for early-career faculty members, providing general guidance on navigating the proposal submission process
  • Supports early-career faculty members in analyzing complex funding solicitations by creating master lists of required content, developing preliminary outlines, tracking updates to solicitations and/or FAQs
  • Supports VCRI Office internal funding and limited submission infrastructure
  • Supports early-career faculty members in narrative development for research proposals including advising team members regarding rhetorical strategy, helping maintain consistency between various pieces of content as details shift and providing close editing of narrative and basic formatting assistance
  • Support general faculty in reviewing proposal narratives for high-level marketing/persuasiveness, as needed

This position may be eligible for a scheduled hybrid (on-site and remote) work environment following a training period, at the discretion of the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional and effective communication (both verbal and written)
  • MS Office Suite proficiency
  • Highly organized / attention to detail
  • Degree in a STEM-focused field or English, Technical Communications, or a related area that required significant writing and/or editing
  • Willing to learn and be taught new skills
  • Familiarity with graduate degree granting, STEM-focused institutions of higher education
  • Experience with technology such as shared calendars and shared drives
  • Experience working with faculty members in higher education
  • Experience editing and providing feedback on others’ technical content (2 years)
  • Experience parsing complex documents, tracking multi-faceted requirements, and working with others to enable their fulfillment (3 years)
  • Graduate certificate or coursework in proposal development or grant writing
  • Positive attitude and adaptability
  • Grammarly experience
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks in parallel
