The Dallas Morning News is looking for a senior editor for news to be a dominant force in our fast-moving newsroom.
This leader will oversee multiple reporting teams, including public safety, education, politics, and local government, with supervision over several editors and their direct reports. This person should be highly skilled as an editor, manager, communicator, strategist, and motivator. Impeccable news judgment is a must.
Dallas-Fort Worth is a fast-growing, diverse community with major businesses, hospitals, educational institutions, and churches. This editor will drive coverage of the people, power, policy, and community performance.
This editor will have a significant track record in leading big event coverage and delivering impactful journalism that holds elected officials accountable. A person who is calm under pressure and deadlines will do well. Other good traits: organized, enthusiastic, compassionate, formidable.
As part of the newsroom’s senior leadership team, this editor will be central to carrying through our digital priorities and developing critical strategic efforts. This person should be a natural collaborator and a strong partner with other senior leaders on projects and initiatives. In addition, this manager should be devoted to the growth and development of their staffers and DEI efforts.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field
Skills and Experience:
- The proven ability to lead, inspire, convey knowledge to others, and work effectively with various colleagues in managing change.
- Minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience in a newsroom.
- Efficient with project manager
- Ability to edit for accuracy, clarity, and quality, in addition to superior writing skills
- Responsible for planning and shaping content
- The ability to solve problems, innovate, and adapt in service of the primary goal, which is to produce quality, innovative journalism that reaches and engages readers and subscribers and has an impact.
- A proven ability to help reporters meet audience goals based on analytics.
- Partnering with the Executive and Managing Editor to establish deadlines and specific requirements
- Reflect and enact the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion by promoting representational diversity in our audiences and workforce, and fostering an equitable and welcoming environment where people from diverse backgrounds can participate and thrive.
- Excellent editing, time management, planning, and prioritization skills to manage daily assignments and long-term enterprise.
