Position Summary


As part of Timberland’s Americas leadership team, you will develop and execute strategies which maximize sales, operating income, brand experience, and customer satisfaction for our brand’s retail channel. You will manage full-price and outlet stores within the United States and Canada. You will provide dynamic, visible, and transformational leadership to impact global business initiatives positively. As a seasoned executive, you will have profit and loss accountability as the “general manager” of the retail channel with the overall objective of creating profitable retail environments. You will also establish control-related standards and procedures.

Senior Director, Retail (Timberland Americas)


You'll be a trusted member of our senior management team, reporting to the Vice President/General Manager Americas. You’ll manage a team composed of a Senior Manager, Retail Operations; a Retail Regional Manager, Full Price Retail; and four Retail District Managers. You'll collaborate and liaise with senior leaders within the organization – most closely with Business Planning, Regional Merchandising, Regional Marketing, Digital, Operations, Customer Service, Finance, vendors, real estate brokers, contractors, etc.


How You Will Make a Difference


What you will do:


  • Develop and execute the strategic plan for all Retail formats to expand share-of-wallet with our target consumer as the best representation of the Timberland brand
  • Contribute to the ideation and execution of strategy that maximizes the performance of all functional areas within the region, i.e., Merchandising, Inventory Management, Store Management, Operations, Finance, and Marketing
  • Hold direct responsibility for achieving the expected 4-wall profit and profit and loss (P&L) expectations for the Retail channel
  • Direct programs to capitalize on the company’s presence in the direct retail arena
  • Identify new opportunities for expansion of our retail footprint through owned retail locations as well as seek out new opportunities for expansion
  • Serve as a member of the senior management team and collaborate with senior executives in the global development and implementation of strategy, marketing, pricing, and financial goal setting


How you will do it:


  • Through actions and examples, ensure that Timberland’s values, including sustainability, are fully incorporated into business strategies and consumer messaging, upholding the values of the company in all business interactions and acting as a visible leader in promoting corporate social responsibility initiatives
  • Establish strong and consistent human resource practices within the division in coordination with the Human Resources department and members of the retail division store management and corporate management teams
  • Provide excellent leadership through rigorous talent management and the development of a solid and capable team
  • Stay informed of retail industry trends, developments, and applicability for the Timberland Brand
  • Partner with functional leads in Human Resources (HR), Finance, Global Business Technology (GBT), Operations, and other VF leaders to ensure corporate goals and objectives are met
  • Strive to establish Timberland as the envy of all other retailers in our space through the superiority of retail environments that consistently help our target consumers experience the essence of the Timberland brand

Skill for Success


Years of Related Professional Experience: 10-12 years of relevant, multi-functional, and progressively responsible retail experience, including five years of managerial experience as well as at least five years of direct P&L responsibility and an outstanding track record in meeting financial goals as well as marketing a brand successfully through a retail channel


Formal education and subsequent undergraduate/graduate degrees, such as a bachelor’s degree or a Master of Business Administration, preferably in Retail Merchandising or a related field, are nice to have, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.


  • What we expect you already know/have:


In addition to being a self-starter, highly driven, analytical and results-oriented, highly organized, and able to work well with individuals at all levels, you will have


  • A demonstrated ability to develop and drive strategy independently within an organization focused on wholesale business concerns
  • And you must be adept at handling multiple priorities and time sensitivities in a fast-paced environment with the ability to travel frequently (50 percent of the time) using all modes of travel
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, effective in executive and C-level meetings with key partners
  • A strong balance between merchandising, inventory management, store management, store operations, and financial planning/analysis skills

Pay Range:


$164,000.00 USD - $246,000.00 USD annually


Incentive Potential:


This position is eligible for additional compensation awards that may include an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential. Specific details of the additional compensation eligibility for this position will be provided during the recruiting and interview process.


Long_Term_Incentive:


This position is eligible to be nominated annually to participate in a Long-Term Incentive Plan. Specific details of the plan will be provided during the recruiting and interview process.
