Position Summary


Product Development at Bristol Myers Squibb is committed to accelerating CMC development to launch through strategic investments in novel development and manufacturing platforms, new development playbooks, and advancing innovation though modeling, AI/ML, and automation. These specific strategic investments are known as our Quantum Leap. The Sr Director, Product Development Strategy reports to the Executive Director, Product Development Strategy. The Sr Director will also be accountable for developing a holistic Product Development digital and modeling strategy as well as global integration and implementation of the strategy including Quantum Leap deliverables. The role will lead highly visible cross functional teams with strategic and innovation scope spanning the digital and modeling space. This is a highly visible and cross functionally impactful role across Product Development and will have significant interfaces across PD and GPS. The Sr Director will also be accountable for developing a holistic Product Development digital and modeling strategy. They will collaborate closely with PD leadership and functional counterparts within PD and with counterparts in GPS, IT, and SB&O to align strategy and embed digital and modeling outcomes into the ways of working.


Roles & Responsibilities


Leads overall PD digital and modeling strategy including Quantum Leap strategic investments


  • Collaborates with PD leadership to stand up an agile team model 20 to 30 individuals consisting of functional, rotational and central resources to address modeling and data infrastructure book of work.
  • Oversees the modeling and digital portfolio of 30+ Quantum Leap projects collaborating with PD functions as well as GPS, IT, BI&A, SB&O and with Quantum leap Initiative leads.
  • Creates, refreshes, and communicates annually a PD Digital / modeling strategy adapting to shifting priorities, as needed
  • Leads the 30+ staff in the agile team model, including director level cross functional agile team leads who own a portfolio of digital and modeling projects.
  • Manages resource and budgetary constraints associated with delivering on the PD Digital and Modeling strategy.
  • Recruits, trains, and retains key talent to support central resources portion of the agile team construct.
  • Organizes and leads PD/GPS best practice teams in Digital and Modeling to foster collaboration and share best practices.
  • Collaborates with PD functions and PD change management lead, HR and corporate communications to define a change management plan to embed new ways of working into the functions work practices.
  • Aligns and decides on key priorities in collaboration with functions and functional representatives.
  • Develops principles for modeling and data infrastructure, ensuring latest external innovation and insights are leveraged by the team including best practices across PD
  • De-bottlenecks execution of modeling and data infrastructure initiatives and provides visibility to progress through metrics.
  • Mentors individuals within the digital and modeling space both centralized, rotational and in function staff.


Requirements


  • Strong understanding of digital and modeling including data analytics and ML/AI and their applications in Product Development/CMC.
  • Strong leadership capability to make decisions while balancing speed, quality & risk
  • Change leadership, ability to partner with corporate communications and HR to outline vertical and horizontal communications strategies.
  • Results oriented, ability to clearly communicate progress at divisional and departmental leadership forums.
  • Sense-making, ability to analyze data and trends from external insights to inform business strategies, prioritize projects to pursue, and allocate resources.
  • 15+ years of experience in Product Development/CMC, with strong technical acumen and experience in strategic planning.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to communicate complex topics concisely & clearly.
  • Experience with enterprise alignment and change management at the PD level
  • Strong talent developer
  • Proven track record of leading successful projects, managing diverse teams and ensuring team high performance
  • BS/MS/PhD degree Engineering, Life Sciences, or related field.
