Senior Director of Procurement


Job Summary/ Purpose


The Sr. Director of Procurement is responsible for developing and implementing a strategic vision to optimize the performance of the procurement function of at EyeCare Partners. This role will include strategic relationship development with vendors, collaboration with ECP practice partners, and attention to oversight of the tactical and strategic procurement operations. It will additionally include driving cost savings and implementing efficient processes to support the needs of our practices. The successful candidate will be analytical with strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.


Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with all internal customers (offices, clinics, and ASCs as well as other support business functions.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive procurement strategy specific to Optometry and Ophthalmology practices, aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Lead and mentor a team of procurement professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and fostering a culture of excellence and fact-based decision making.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to develop and maintain procurement policies and procedures.
  • Bringing innovation in procurement operations and instilling a culture of continuous improvement
  • Supplier Management and Negotiations:
  • Identify opportunities to optimize procurement processes, reduce costs, and improve product quality and availability.
  • Procurement Strategy Development:
  • Ensure procurement processes comply with relevant regulatory requirements, such as FDA regulations and HIPAA.
  • Identify and onboard new suppliers, conducting thorough evaluations and due diligence.
  • Procure-to-Pay Process Transformation:
  • Set performance objectives, monitor progress, and conduct regular performance evaluations.
  • Improving knowledge base for intellectual capital, practice methodologies and toolkits for procurement operations
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and advancements in Optometry and Ophthalmology products and services.
  • Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers of Optometry and Ophthalmology products, equipment, and services. Lead consolidation efforts where relevant.
  • Implement best practices for inventory management, demand planning, and supplier collaboration to ensure product availability and minimize stockouts.
  • Collaborate with practice managers, clinicians, and administrators to understand their procurement needs and provide strategic guidance and execution support.
  • Support the governance of the procurement operations, including cross-functional collaboration and the effective prioritization, deployment, control and monitor of spend across the relevant spend areas
  • Identify and address process inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and compliance gaps through process improvements and automation.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
  • Implement and monitor controls to mitigate procurement risks, including counterfeit products, unauthorized purchases, and data breaches.
  • Lead the transformation of the procure-to-pay process, ensuring streamlined operations across the network of practices.
  • Identify training and development opportunities to enhance the team's capabilities and keep them informed about industry trends.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to leverage technology solutions that enhance procurement efficiency and data visibility.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to address issues, monitor performance, and ensure adherence to service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Negotiate contracts and favorable terms to achieve cost savings, quality assurance, and product/service standardization.


Qualifications And Experience


  • Proven track record of transforming procure-to-pay processes and implementing efficient procurement strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead Tactical Procurement Operations with efficiency and integrity
  • Experience implementing or using procure-to-pay software such as Coupa and/or Ariba, ideally in an SAP environment
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with practice managers, clinicians, and suppliers.
  • Familiarity with healthcare compliance standards, including FDA regulations, HIPAA, and relevant privacy and security requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Healthcare Administration, Operations, Engineering or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Strong leadership attributes, relationship builder with suppliers and internal stakeholders, ability to influence stakeholders to meet objectives and develop clear and shared positive aspirations regarding the purpose, direction and contribution to procurement.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in procurement, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the healthcare industry, preferably with exposure to large medical practices.
  • Excellent strategic sourcing, negotiation and contract management skills, with experience in working with critical suppliers in the healthcare industry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to leverage data to drive decision-making.
  • Strong understanding of marketplace, healthcare procurement processes, supply chain management, and regulations related to medical devices and supplies.
  • Deep expertise in building and developing Procurement teams. Long record of above average engagement results
  • A proven track record in the Strategic Sourcing and cost savings initiatives, leading to sustainable reductions in cost of goods without compromising quality
