Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the President of the company, the Senior Director of Operations is responsible to plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee operations activities for all of the organization, ensuring the development and implementation of efficient processes, procedures, and cost-effective systems to meet current and future needs of the organization.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishes, communicates, and implements operations-related policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent support and execution
  • Collaborates with executive leadership to develop and meet company goals while supplying expertise and guidance on operations projects and systems
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements new processes, technologies, and systems to improve and streamline organizational processes and use of resources and materials
  • Establishes and controls conditions of production to satisfy customer and quality specifications; works closely with Engineering and Quality Control in root cause analysis when necessary
  • Identifies training needs and ensures proper training is developed and provided
  • Establishes and administers the department’s budget
  • Collaborates with Operations Managers and other departments, including engineering, sales, and planning to carry out the organization’s goals and objectives
  • Ensures that departmental decisions and project plans, such as those for staffing, development, organization, material efficiency, hardware acquisitions, and facilities, are in line with the organization’s business plan and vision
  • Establishes, implements, and communicates the strategic direction of the organization’s operations
  • Manages production, logistics, inventory control, maintenance, and production scheduling


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Proven track record of effective training & mentoring of others
  • Superior negotiation skills for both internal and external purposes
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry
  • Ability & willingness to support a manufacturing facility
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs/projects with established project management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of LEAN manufacturing principles, experience, passion & demonstrated track record of implementation
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Proven history of a sense of urgency in supporting production needs


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees the production departments of multiple manufacturing facilities
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations of management-level staff.
  • Interviews, hires, and trains management-level staff in the department
  • Handles discipline of employees in accordance with company policy
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations of management-level staff


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Engineering, or other industry-related field
  • Experience in developing budgets and business plans
  • 8 or more years in a senior leadership role
  • Strong working knowledge of data analysis and performance metrics using business management software (ex: SAP, ERP, CRM)
  • Experience leading teams in a manufacturing environment
  • Defense Manufacturing experience preferred


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to move about a large manufacturing facility.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to wear PPE as necessary (safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe shoes, etc.).
  • Constantly communicating with others to exchange information.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Time is spent equally between a typical office environment and a manufacturing environment with no major sources of discomfort. Essentially normal controlled working environments with noise levels within acceptable safety limits and acceptable lighting and temperature conditions.

Occasional domestic travel is required,
