Job Description
Role Summary: The Sr Director Live Events will play a pivotal role in planning, development of technical solutions and execution of live events at Sphere including Touring Concert events. The Sr Director will act as liaison between client and internal teams including the EVP of Live and VP of Event Production to bring a project to life, on time, and on budget. The Sr Director will oversee all aspects from the initial phase of creative conception, through onsite execution. They will manage technical and production vendor relationships and assist project managers from conception through deliverables. The Sr Director Live Events must have the ability to communicate effectively across departments and external resources. As well as being technically minded, the Sr Director Live Events will be a point contact (along with EVP Live) for each of the touring bands, paying attention to the technical development within the project, construction implementation (with VP Event Production), commissioning testing and final approval. The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of entertainment systems, live event, and broadcast technologies, as well as A/V tech such as lighting, audio, rigging, transport and logistics and construction experience. Communicating intricate technology solutions between top executives, project managers and engineers will be an essential and daily used skill set. The candidate will be constantly learning about the latest technologies and understanding the technical implications as they relate to MSG shows across multiple venues. They must have amazing interpersonal skills and the ability to stay calm while operating within a high pressure, fast-paced environment. This role will require some travel. Specific Functions/Activities Summary:
  • Manage production issues with VP Event Production.
  • Effectively communicate a client's vision & collaborate internally to develop creative concepts & implement clear plans of action to meet brand objectives and recommending the best technologies.
  • Manage expectations, provide feedback, and anticipate challenges before they arise
  • Communicate complex solutions with entertainment market leading ideas and approaches.
  • Oversee the development of show documents, communication strategy, ground plans & layouts, creative concepts, staffing, onsite security & logistics, transportation, catering, etc.
  • Day-to-day management of assigned projects – overseeing all elements from timelines, staffing, creative, onsite logistics, working with the various clients.
  • Own budgets & timelines, offering suggestions for efficiencies & feasibility.
  • Liaise between client, internal teams, and event partners to ensure projects are completed on time & on budget.
  • Develop, document, and implement key testing, quality assurance, interoperability, and maintenance solutions across existing technical platforms.
Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of working with live events/entertainment/ theater/production
o Specific focuses on live and theatrical systems such as automation, LED, and Video systems, show control, lighting systems, robotics, automation, permanent installations, and the event industry.
o Experience with large scale construction and event-based projects (in CA a bonus)
  • A minimum degree in a technical field (or a combination of a technical program certifications and commensurate entertainment industry experience of 8+ years).
  • Should have supervisory, support, design, and integration experience in theatrical, production, networking, and media technologies.
  • Expertise in multiple entertainment technology disciplines (minimum of 3)
  • Positive and self-directed, initiative oriented, proactive, with the ability to positively influence and motivate indirect reports, leads by example.
  • Experience preparing budgets, managing them, and maintaining their profit margins
  • Proficient in PowerPoint & Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours (nights & weekends) as required
