Senior Demand Planner: Become the Newest Member of the Vans Family


Vans – the global icon of creative expression in youth culture – has been the leader in youth culture connectivity since 1966. As a member of the Supply Chain and Demand Planning team, you will be responsible for analyzing historical data and identify current trends to build and present the unconstrained demand forecast to cross functional teams: Finance, Sales, and Merchandising. Your role will play an imperative piece of the Supply Chain business as your analysis and findings will have a direct impact on shipment forecasting, style and color forecasts, and the Vans 5 Year Plan. Our purpose is to enable creativity and inspire youth culture by celebrating and embracing the Off the Wall attitude in all aspects of our work.


How You Will Make a Difference:


In addition to the primary role of developing and communicating the demand forecast, the Sr Demand Planner is also a leader of his or hers peers and will be tasked with training others as well as special projects and process improvement opportunities. Prepare and facilitate monthly cross-functional demand forecast meetings with Sales, Finance, and Merchandising by analyzing historical demand and current trends with focus on reaching consensus on final forecast. Convert demand forecast into financial ship forecast by analyzing current order base, carry over, and ship assumptions using spreadsheet formats. Facilitate monthly meeting with Finance and Sales to recommend ship forecast and reach agreement on financial forecast submission to corporate. Prepare forecast reporting and demand planning metrics for monthly S&OP meetings. Recommend style and color forecasts (material level) to Merchandising and Sales by analyzing historical trends. Facilitate meetings to ensure global forecast agreement is reached at the product line level in accordance with financial and merchandising plans. Based on product line forecast and additional statistical forecasting methods prepare detailed forecast at style/color level for Sourcing to secure capacity. Execute product line and style level forecast by loading data into current systems to ensure correct product mix for purchasing using forecast software. Develop annual ship forecast for recommendation to Finance on Financial Plan by converting demand to ship goals and establishing monthly seasonality. Develop annual inventory roll based on Financial Plan for recommendation to Finance on inventory plan. Provide team with special reporting as required i.e. 5 Year Plan, monthly demand for high volume/multiple delivery product lines, color blank requirements, forecast accuracy (forecast vs purchase follow up) etc. Your unique and diverse experiences and background enable you to provide differing perspectives to fuel our global growth. Provide analysis and follow through for business improvements related, but not limited to, shipping, inventory, sku efficiency, systems and process.


Skills for Success:


Years of Related Professional Experience: 5+ years


Educational/ Position Requirements:


  • Exposure to SAP, IBM Cognos Analytics, and Brio query tool a plus
  • IBF Certification a plus
  • Exposure to Logility and/or APO forecasting software a plus
  • Experience working in the Supply Chain industry
  • Ability to work/communicate with all levels of the organization to reach consensus decisions
  • Ability to understand, assess and resolve problems by using technical and analytical skills
  • Proficient PC skills. Advanced Excel skills a must.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in the Demand Planning field or an equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills


Special Physical and/or Mental Requirements:


  • Travel by air and overnight, as required 5-10% amount of time.
  • Lifting and/or bending 20 lbs amount of weight.


Pay Range:


$73,440.00 USD - $110,160.00 USD annually


Incentive Potential:


This position is eligible for additional compensation awards that may include an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential. Specific details of the additional compensation eligibility for this position will be provided during the recruiting and interview process.
