Job Description
**Open for Remote in the US (ideally EST or CST)
Job Purpose:
Legal expert in global incident response, including incidents of potential compromise of personal and non-personal (i.e., company proprietary) data. Provide guidance regarding legal obligations, strategy and regulatory expectations across RELX and its business areas, on a global basis. Ensure risk-based and company-focused advice is given including as to data subject and regulator notification, risk assessment process and communications strategy.
Main Accountabilities and Tasks:
  • Lead counsel for data security across RELX globally and to central corporate functions, including incident response and communications planning related to same and contracting related to data security.
  • Create and maintain relationships with law enforcement and regulators.
  • Participate in team responsible for proactive and reactive global data security programs and advice.
  • Build and maintain cross functional relationships.
  • Advise senior leaders on legal obligations and cybersecurity issues and strategic approach to risk management.
  • Provide expert guidance on incident preparedness activities including awareness and training activities for example through tabletop exercises with stakeholders of varying levels and areas of responsibility.
Qualifications
  • J.D., or if outside of the United States, equivalent and license to practice law.
  • Certified Information Privacy Professional or additional subject matter related certifications (for example, CISM or CISSP) preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years legal experience in-house or at a law firm providing guidance on data security obligations and related issues.
  • Highly flexible and ability to work independently, or as part of a multi-disciplinary team, with a goal-based approach to deliverables needed.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational and communications skills, including the ability to write clear, coherent, precise and persuasive materials.
  • Ability to successfully navigate cross-cultural issues and be available “off hours” as needed in incident response.
  • Ability to organize and present information for business leaders to support risk informed and empowered decision making.
  • Experience in multi-jurisdictional incident response preferred, including experience in APAC and the EU and UK.
Skills/Experience
  • Proven track record of managing incident response relative to data security, including deep knowledge of global legal obligations, trends and regulatory enforcement priorities.
  • Experience negotiating vendor and customer contracts, including understanding of Standard Contractual Clauses.
  • Significant experience providing practical advice.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize needs and deliver results in an agile, fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Expertise on matters related to security risks, compliance frameworks, administrative, technical and organizational measures and protection of information and understanding of investigations life cycle and expected components.
