Job Summary
The Counsel – Transactions and Technology will fill a newly created position as Acuity Brands expands its Law & Business Environment team. We are looking for a business-minded attorney with extensive experience in commercial transactions and technology. This role will collaborate with other members of the law and business environment team and with business partners to support sales and internal operations, including product sales, SaaS services, software licensing, supply chain, and professional services. This position will have exposure to senior members of management.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Supporting mergers and acquisitions
- Training company employees on legal and compliance topics
- Reviewing, drafting and negotiating:
- General commercial agreements, including sourcing, distribution, sales, consulting, confidentiality and other agreements
- Technology sales and licensing agreements, both software (SaaS/on premises/SDKs/mobile/firmware) and hardware, primarily focusing on outbound sales contracts
- Development agreements, services agreements, and other contracts with technology partners
- Developing and managing outside counsel resources worldwide (as necessary)
- Working with internal business customers to improve processes, all with a focus on end-user satisfaction
- Providing transactional counseling for internal business customers
Experience (minimum experience required)
At least 5-7 years of experience in a law firm or corporation. Previous in-house experience in a manufacturing or technology company preferred. A JD from an accredited law school is required.

Preferred Experience (i.e. industry experience)
Product sales, SaaS services, software licensing, supply chain, professional services, data ownership and licensing, and reseller arrangements.
