The Corporate Legal department at Publix provides a wide variety of services including responding to specific legal matters and developing compliance programs, policies, and guidelines. The department provides legal services across the entire company in areas such as real estate, food safety, pharmacy, environmental, occupational health and safety, e-commerce, energy, tax, trademarks, litigation management, and regulatory compliance.
The Sr Attorney will be a member of the Technology, Intellectual Property and Contracts Legal team and will provide high-level counsel and negotiate and advocate for Publix through exceptional writing, listening, and communication skills. This position will have a heavy focus on technology matters. Ideal candidates will have high levels of applied judgement and interpersonal skills to work productively when faced with challenging work situations and time pressures.
This is an office-based position located at Publix’s Lakeland corporate office.
What you’ll do

• Manage sweepstakes and contest matters
• Review customer facing digital content
• Provide support for general legal issues such as drafting and reviewing internal policies and procedures, vendor problems, miscellaneous civil litigation, Publix initiatives/projects, legal research and analysis, and regulatory matters
• Identify and assess legal risks arising from proposed contractual requirements
• Manage intellectual property issues (trademark and patent)
• Manage all facets of the contract creation, review, and negotiation process, heavily focused on technology contracts
• Advise and train internal departments on contractual issues

Required Qualifications:

• Law School degree
• Ability to lead and manage resources and coordinate the efforts of others
• At least 5 years of practice experience in the areas of contract creation, review and negotiation; and a member of a state Bar
• Knowledge of potential legal and business risks
• Knowledge of standard and alternative contractual language
• Knowledge of laws and regulations relevant to Publix’s industry
• Knowledge of Publix’s business, policies, and procedures
• Computer skills using Microsoft products as well as several database programs
