Spinnaker Trust is seeking a Senior Client Advisor for its Employee Stock Ownership Plan(ESOP) team. This position will be based in the Portland, ME office.


Requirements of the Senior Client Advisor, ESOP:


  • Ability to commute to the office in Portland on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week.
  • Prior experience with ESOPs preferred.
  • Ability to travel to visit clients (approximately once a month in New England)as well as attend and present at conferences (approximately once a quarter).
  • Fundamental understanding of accounting and corporate finance as well as non-public company valuation methods and processes.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or economics or similar work experience.
  • 7-10 years in a similar role focused on company valuation, financial analysis, fiduciary services or any combination.

Responsibilities of the Senior Client Advisor – ESOP:


  • Develop strong relationships with key client employees, as well as other professionals working to support the client’s ESOP. This includes –legal counsel, valuation firm, and third-party administrator.
  • Review financial statements to analyze the financial health of the client businesses.
  • Managing ESOP transactions (new ESOPs, additional sales in current ESOPs and sales to third parties) including extensive review of valuation reports and legal documents.
  • Offer advice to clients on basic administration and more complex strategies to manage their ESOP.
  • Review, document and assist in approving annual valuations of company stock, including evaluation and selection of valuation firms as well as review, oversight, and approval of their work.
  • Through documentation of steps taken and decisions made in transactions and annual ESOP process.
  • Assist in general strategy for ESOP client process across the organization.
