About the role


Performs preventive and corrective maintenance, repairs and installations of electrical, mechanical, plumbing and/or HVAC equipment, machinery and controls located in the interior and exterior of buildings. Works under general direction, supervises building system operations and performance. Has critical and specific knowledge required at client site.

What you'll do

Follows all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and Company directives related to building operations and work safety.

Operates, maintains, monitors, and performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on building equipment.

Includes the following:
  • Fire detection and suppression
  • Life safety and lighting
  • Digital systems
  • Maintains the building lighting system, including element and ballast repairs or replacements.
  • Temperature control systems
  • Building management systems
  • Mechanical/HVAC/plumbing systems
  • Maintains the professional appearances of the property, equipment, engineering spaces, and common areas.
  • Electrical/cabling

Prepares estimates detailing the amount of time and materials needed for completing tasks. Maintains adequate supplies and tools and orders materials to finish tasks.

Maintains an energy management program to ensure measures are taken to operate all systems in the most efficient manner to keep operating costs at a minimum.

Oversees and inspects the work performed by outside contractors. Contracted work may include landscaping, snow removal, remodeling, HVAC, plumbing, and cleaning.

Performs work in compliance with standard operating procedures and/or critical work packages, and maintenance work instructions.

Performs tasks such as carpentry, electrical, painting, roofing, HVAC, welding, furniture assembly/relocation and locksmith tasks. Performs inspection of building systems including fire alarms, HVAC, plumbing and electrical.

Provides informal assistance such as technical mentorship, and/or training to coworkers. Coordinates and assigns tasks to co-workers within a work unit and/or project.

We're seeking candidates who have a High School Diploma or GED, shown work experience and knowledge in electrical systems, refrigeration, and HVAC. Those who have an equivalent combination of education and work experience will also be considered.

Universal CFC certification is required for this position.

Additional certifications in one or more of the following categories is a huge plus! Those categories include electrical, mechanical, HVAC and refrigeration systems, process controls, mechanical power transmissions, painting, plumbing, carpentry, or engine repair.

Certifications and licenses will be required by local or state jurisdictions.

Communication is a must. We want to see candidates who comprehend and interpret instructions, short correspondence, and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding. Who can also write routine reports and correspondence. Who can respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, and/or supervisor. Lastly, candidates who can present information to an internal department and/or large groups of employees.

Financial knowledge is required. Colleges with basic knowledge of financial terms and principles will be highly considered. For example, ones who can calculate simple figures such as percentages.

Ability to reason is needed. An individual who can resolve problems and handle a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists. Those with excellent analytical skills will stand out.

Basic skills within Microsoft Office Outlook. Uses personal computer or PDA for work order system, email, ESS and training.

Physical requirements for this role include the following:
  • Stooping

  • Lift and carry heavy loads (50 lbs or more)

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for the Sr Building Engineer position is $106,080 annually or $51 per hour and the maximum salary for the Sr Building Engineer position is $143,520 annually or $69 per hour. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience.
