The Opportunity

This role assists in producing in-house macroeconomic views and forecasts across QBE’s main markets (US, AU, UK and EZ). Develops a growing understanding of the macroeconomic concepts/trends and how they impact economic policy and markets. Performs research on relevant macro topics for risk management activities. Leads the development and enhancement of quantitative analytical framework and tools. Effectively leverages external resources and research providers to form views and flag risks. Explores alternative data and new technologies to support productivity gains in data analysis.

Primary Responsibilities

• Participates in ad-hoc research projects, including building stress scenarios for various stakeholders (e.g. Inflation Working Group, ICAAP, etc.)
• Supports the production of the weekly research notes (Global Macro Pulse) on the latest macroeconomic trends in the relevant exposure markets
• Takes a lead in building and maintaining the macroeconomic data infrastructure. Streamline the data sourcing, analysis and the chart production process
• Develops a growing understanding of macroeconomic concepts, country-specific economic profiles (AU/EZ/US/UK) and the global macro trends
• Develops and improves models for tracking and forecasting various inflation indices relevant across various streams of business
• Supports the development, and regular usage, of systematic tools to efficiently screen for macroeconomic signals, risks and trends and how they affect monetary policy outcomes
• Assists in developing and enhancing in-house macroeconomic capabilities, with focus on quantitative analysis (developing tools, models and supporting analytics)
• Assists with the quarterly Macro House View report, which provides an in-house view on the latest macroeconomic drivers and main indicators (GDP/CPI/Unemployment/Rates)
• Supports the production and communication of the macroeconomic assumptions for Economic Capital Modeling, Investment Strategy Optimization, Investment Planning and Budgeting, and more broadly across the enterprise (e.g. pricing, reserving, financial planning)
• Explores alternative sources of data, as well as emerging new technologies for data processing, to enrich the monitoring and analysis of the macroeconomic context (to support the production of macroeconomic insights that are relevant for the investment strategy and the broader business)

Required Education

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience

• 3 years relevant experience

Preferred Education Specifics

• Degree in Economics, Finance, Business or Statistics

Preferred Experience

• Experience within the insurance or financial industries preferred
• Experience with designing communication to Sr stakeholders and corporate forums
• 3 years of experience with a focus on economic, finance, and/or investment quantitative analysis

Preferred Licenses/Certifications

• Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or already progressing within the Program, is welcomed/preferred

Compensation

Base pay offered will vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location and business needs

Annual Salary Range: $82,000 - $124,000

Annual Salary Range: $103,000 - $155,000
