Summary
Save the Children Action Network (“SCAN”) – a 501(c)(4) organization – is the political advocacy arm of Save the Children. We are building bipartisan support to make sure every child has a strong start in life. We’re doing this by advocating for high-quality early learning and ending child hunger in the U.S., the safety of children arriving at the southern U.S. border and educating and protecting kids around the world.
Elevating diverse youth voices is a key priority to highlighting the need for policy change and direct programs impacting children in the US and around the world. The Student Engagement Senior Advisor is responsible for designing the structure and strategy for engaging high school and college students in the mission of Save the Children (SCUS) and the political advocacy campaigns for Save the Children Action Network (SCAN). You will play a vital role in growing and enhancing SCUS and SCAN school club program while managing both the Student Alumni program and upcoming Student Advisor program.
What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)
Program Development and Management (45%)
- Design and launch the new Student Advisor Program in 2024, which includes recruiting 10- 15 youth from our student ambassador program who will engage in collective impact, governance and youth mentorship work
- Manage SCAN’s national Student Ambassador Program, including provide growth and engagement strategy, design monitoring and evaluation plans, and provide oversight of related platforms, programing, communication, and initiatives
- Manage SCAN’s newly launched Student Alumni Program, a dedicated space for graduating students to continue engaging with SCAN across the country to help advance STC/SCAN’s overall work in advocacy, fundraising and engagement while building their skills as they enter their careers
- Develop a cohesive and holistic approach to student training in collaboration with all SCAN teams and programs, ensuring an easy-to-use, well-organized, impactful approach is developed and maintained for all webinars, in-person trainings, national Advocacy Summits, and more
Operational Excellence (30%)
- Lead ownership of departmental training, resources, and data within various platforms such as TechChange, CollaborNation, Articulate 360 and EveryAction
- Support the development and execution of communication and media strategies to increase program visibility through external communications, presentations and other related activity
- Train, develop, coach, lead, and supervise two Lead Associates, clearly communicating organization, division and department priorities, and how their work contributes to our mission, ensuring that the working environment continually fosters diversity, inclusion, and belonging – supporting Save the Children Action Network values
Strategy and Planning (25%)
- Lead the planning, goal setting, reporting and budgeting process for the Student Engagement team
- Prioritize cross-team collaboration across various team within SCAN and the Agency, including S. Programs, Business & Technology Solutions, Marketing, Communication & Fundraising, and Resource Development
- Design evaluation planning, tools, data collection, and reporting for the Volunteer Leader Program; monitor quality of implementation through various means including both quantitative and qualitative measurement
- Collaborate with the National Campaigns team and the Volunteer Leadership and Training teams to design student-specific campaign resources on our priority federal campaigns
Required Qualifications
- Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Professional experience working on local, state or federal advocacy campaigns
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally
- Experience working with diverse groups of volunteers both in online and offline settings
- Demonstrated professional experience on grassroots organizing with student or youth groups
- Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional experience working on electoral campaigns.
Compensation
Save the Children Action Network pays the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:
- Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $98,600 – $110,200 base salary
- Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $108,800 – $121,600 base salary
- Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $88,400 – $98,800 base salary
Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location. Employee may be eligible for an incentive program. Save the Children also offers paid vacation, accrued at least 12 days a year, depending on paygrade and length of service, paid safety and wellness leave of at least 1 day per month worked for a full time employee which is pro rata reduced for employees working less than a full time schedule, and at least 10 paid holidays a year. Employees may be eligible for additional bonus compensation.
