Job Description

Job Title: Sculptor, Scenic Artist
Reports to: Director, Studio Operations
Job Overview:
This position will work with a team of talented studio artisans developing and completing artistic and animated elements for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and other events including, The Macy’s Flower Shows, 4th of July, Santa Land, and other special events.

Essential Duties:
  • Collaborates with Design, Engineering, and Studio Production on projects
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned by Studio Management
  • Work as a Scenic Painter on floats, props, and other projects
  • Works as a subtractive sculptor using EPS foam
  • Acts as a crewmember on installations, set ups and take downs
Qualifications:
  • Proficient in 3D software Z-brush and/or Rhino is a plus
  • Professional in appearance
  • Experience working in a “hands-on” production shop environment
  • General knowledge of hand and power tools
  • Experience with 3D sculpture, modeling, and printing
  • Ability to collaborate with the Managers on methods of project planning and implementation
  • Ability to multitask and collaborate with multiple artists and builders
  • Excellent communication skills
  • General knowledge of construction methods and carpentry plus
  • Good physical condition, job requires physical lifting, pulling, pushing 50+lbs.
  • Knowledge of carpentry, welding/metal fabrication and general rigging
  • Experienced with 2-part plastics, urethane, silicone, or poly-urethane foam coating systems
  • Self-directed, able to work with minimal supervision
  • Basic math skills able to translate drawings to material orders
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent work experience
  • Willingness to learn and expand your skillset
  • Able to read scale drawings and basic schematics
Work Hours:
  • 40 hours M-F typical
  • Willingness to work overtime and meet deadlines
  • Some nights, weekends and holidays required including Thanksgiving eve and Thanksgiving Day
