Job Description

We are seeking a Scientist to support the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in support of the overall functions of the Vaccine Immunology Program.

  • Write manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
  • Organize and communicate complex data sets in a clear and concise manner to key collaborators from diverse backgrounds.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a science related field is required.
  • Head scientific development, validation and deployment of assays and methods for evaluation of B cell responses for pre-clinical and Phase I clinical trials.
  • Demonstrates experience working in a research laboratory environment.
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, conduct, report and troubleshoot multiple assays to ensure scientific quality and regulatory expectations.
  • Provide scientific mentorship and assist with training team members and junior staff.
  • Assist the Federal Task Leader with oversight of operations related to evaluation of B cell responses to vaccine pre-clinical and clinical trials.
  • Interact with Data Management groups during clinical study lifecycle.
  • Provide the Federal Task Leader with information in creating and maintaining a cross functional development plan and projecting timelines and budgets for evaluation of B cell responses in Phase I clinical trials.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Develop and continuously improve experimental processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and quality of work.
  • Lead internal development strategies to establish, maintain and expand laboratory infrastructure that is effective, efficient, and successful.
  • Prepare, review, and deliver scientific presentations providing rigorous, objective information and recommendations to support project decisions.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience is required.
  • Establish relationships and engage with cross-functional teams to manage scientific projects and clinical trial activities in an efficient manner.
  • Scientifically lead departmental team in drafting and compiling clinical study documents (Method development plans, method development reports, SOPs, Data Transfer Agreements, worksheets, guides, etc.).
  • Provide the Federal Task Leader with procurement needs and suggestions for laboratory equipment.
  • Highlight decision / inflection points in evaluation of clinical trials B cell responses to foster data driven project decision-making.
  • Anticipate obstacles and difficulties that may arise and develop contingency plans for resolution.
  • Conceive and implement initiatives to advance projects, as well as provide critical scientific recommendations to clinical trial investigators.
  • Participate in meetings with collaborators.
