Position Summary

The objective is to provide scientific support for new and ongoing research programs within DARS as described below.

These projects require an interdisciplinary scientist with a Ph.D. degree in biomedical sciences, pharmacological sciences, or related fields with a minimum of 3 years of research experience in chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, biological systems modeling, and/or quantitative systems pharmacology in academic, industry and/or the government.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Determine time and resources required to execute projects and help establish plans and schedules
• Participate in the design and mechanistic model-based data analysis of clinical trials to study the efficacy and/or safety of existing or novel opioid antagonists indicated for rescuing opioid-induced respiratory depression or other
• Participate in planning and developing of in silico model based experiments and protocols, recommend methods and develop and/or modify methods and procedures for conducting projects
• Guide or direct other computational research associates in experimental procedures and processes
• Independently perform or direct mechanistic model-based research in accordance with established protocols in specific areas (such as mechanistic modeling of cardiomyocytes and opioids receptor binding), evaluating and assuring research progress, data validity; identify unexpected results and provide potential causes and solutions and discuss experimental findings with stakeholders at all levels

Minimum Requirements

• Previous experience in using ordinary differential equations to simulate physiological, pathophysiological, and/or pharmacological processes required
• Written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required as this candidate will be expected to work productively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
• Experience in developing mechanistic pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic models or systems biology models to study physiology, pathophysiology, and/or pharmacology
• A multidisciplinary background in mathematical modeling, biology, and computational modeling.
• D. degree in biomedical sciences, pharmacological sciences, or related fields with a minimum of 3 years of research experience in chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, biological systems modeling, and/or quantitative systems pharmacology in academic, industry and/or the government.
