Medical Laboratory Scientist / Technician - Overnight Core Lab/Blood Bank

Conducts routine tests for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease and performs related duties following established standards and practices.
Education

• 60 semester hours including 24 semester hours of medical lab technology, Required or
• 3 months training in each specialty in which high complexity testing is performed. Required
• Or medical lab tech in any combination plus laboratory training that includes either completion of a clinical lab training program Required or
• 60 semester hrs including 24 hrs of science that includes 6 hrs chemistry, 6 hrs biology and 12 hrs chemistry, biology, Required or
• Associate's degree from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program Required or

Experience

• Prior work experience not required Required

Licenses and Certifications

• ASCP - Medical Technologist ASCP certification preferred. Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Operates, calibrates and conducts performance checks and performs routine maintenance on lab equipment. Recognizes problems and notifies supervisor.
• Participates in surveys, conducts established quality control of procedures, evaluates results per established protocol, implements corrective action when indicated, and ensures accuracy of test results. Recognizes problems and notifies section supervisor.
• May perform specimen procurement as required.
• Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts as required.
• Performs a wide variety of routine procedures following prescribed protocol and using manual or automated methods; calculates and reports results as established.
• Performs comparison studies for linearity, precision, accuracy, etc., per protocol.
• Collects statistical data, cost analysis, and daily tallies for reports.
• Consults with supervisor, pathologist regarding difficult analysis or abnormal findings.
• Trains new associates and students per protocol.
• Prepares, evaluates, and labels reagents, media, etc., per procedure.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Processes specimens ensuring accuracy of identification; confidentiality of information; and appropriate preparation, storage, and transportation. May perform specimen procurement as required.
• Maintains inventory supply, stocks and maintains neat, orderly work area.
• Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
• Basic computer skills preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28.00 - $44.00 per hour
