Summary of the group:

The Bacteriology group in early Vaccines and Immune Therapies at AstraZeneca is developing new and innovative vaccines against bacterial pathogens. We’re constantly pushing the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines to patients, with a passion for discovery and a pipeline to show for it. We’re pioneering innovative research and exploring novel platforms to deliver vaccines against bacterial pathogens. We’re industry-leading in immunology, protein engineering and translational science. We offer an outstanding and strong collaborative network as part of the AstraZeneca family, as together we explore synergies between small and large molecules.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will be focused on expressing and purifying antigens from bacterial pathogens for use in in vivo studies as part of a vaccine antigen discovery effort.

Required Skills:

• The candidate is encouraged to be a self-motivated problem solver who can design and carry out experiments with limited supervision.
• Initiative and innovation in designing and implementing experiments
• B.S. degree and 4+ years’ experience or MS degree and 2+ years’ experience.
• Extensive experience in protein purification and analysis (cell extraction, protein fractionation, SDS-PAGE, column chromatography, AKTA FPLC.)
• Must be dedicated to maintaining high standards of data quality and laboratory safety, and must demonstrate strong organization, record keeping and communication skills.
• Experience in molecular biology methods (PCR, nucleic acid purification, cloning and protein expression analysis.)

Desired Skills

• Experience in immunologic assays (ELISA, western blot, flow cytometry) and eukaryotic cell culture is a plus.
• Microbiologic laboratory skills (strain isolation and subculture.)
