Position Focus:
The Schwarzman Center Hospitality Operations Director of Operations reports to the Senior Director of Auxiliaries and works in tandem with the Director of Programing at Schwarzman Center to ensure overall successful hospitality operations of the Center. This position provides leadership for all operational support activities at the center, including material management, food and beverage retail outlets, events catering, room reservations, building maintenance and custodial operations. This position oversees a team comprised of managerial, culinary, service and custodial staff. This person is responsible for promoting a positive culture among team members that supports a system of operational excellence

Essential Duties
LEADERSHIP 1. Oversee and manage the work of a team comprised of managerial, culinary, service and custodial staff. 2. Establish and maintain a culture of excellence for a multi-faceted operation which aligns with Yale Hospitality, Schwarzman Center and University goals and objectives. 3. Develop broad initiatives that create best in class operations that increase satisfaction for students, parents and university stakeholder’s. 4. Provide leadership and mentoring for professional staff and union employees to ensure excellence and high-quality service standards. 5. Develop a culture that supports Yale Hospitality standards of operation. 6. Provide a high level of customer satisfaction and quality service for the Yale Community. COMMUNICATIONS: 7. Design and roll out marketing and communication strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and generate untraditional revenue. 8. Utilize exceptional communication skills to effectively work in partnership with Executive Director, Deputy Director, Program Director, managers and support team members. 9. Establish strong collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. 10. Collaborate with union leadership to develop on-going communication regarding job descriptions, work rules, and operational excellence. BUDGET: 11. Achieve financial goals by reviewing trends, guest counts, daily labor cost and other expenses. Make appropriate revisions or recommendations to operations as needed. 12. Develop and recommend the budget, marketing plans, and objectives and manage within those approved plans. OPERATIONS: 13. Oversee the daily building operations, including food & beverage outlets, catering, event operations, room reservations, custodial, material management, and waste management. 14. Ensure that all legal requirements are consistently adhered to including federal, state and/or local laws pertaining to alcoholic beverages and food safety and sanitation. Ensure adherence to University policies and procedures. 15. Plan and manage processes, practices and collaborate with various constituencies to ensure that operating programs are aligned with the pre-determined objectives. 16. Establish systems, processes and procedures to ensure adherence to quality assurance and standard operating procedures across all areas of the Schwarzman Center. 17. Conduct frequent inspection/analysis/critique of all food and beverage outlets, meeting rooms, rehearsal spaces and public spaces. 18. Incorporate new technology, trends, concepts, program ideas, and other relevant information into the operating methodology. 19. Prepare operational reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and make appropriate recommendations. 20. Strive to maximize the department’s and university sustainability goals. 21. Direct and coordinate emergency response efforts in accordance with department and University Emergency Management plan. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of 8 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Well-developed organizational skills. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Strong oral and written communication, supervisory, conceptual and analytical skills.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Demonstrated institutional, hotel, or conference center skills that include a diverse range of operational oversite
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently as well as be a member of a team.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Knowledge of food service quality and safety, sustainability standards and applied nutrition. Knowledge of establishing, monitoring and controlling alcoholic beverage programs.
