Description of Job


The School Programs Coordinator is responsible for the administrative support of school programs (both on and offsite) for the History Colorado Center including field trips, History Take-Out classes, artifact kit rentals and teacher professional development. This position exists to provide organizational support to History Colorado’s education programs by welcoming, checking in, and managing K-12 school groups on-site at the History Colorado Center, as well as handling reservations and communications with teachers and other school personnel. This is a key customer service position that interfaces directly with teachers, chaperones and students.


Confirms school group visitation times with teachers, welcomes school groups to the museum, guides them to their facilitator, collects payment when needed, and sends email surveys following the visit. Also responsible for set up of the lunchroom, assigning rolling carts to schools for lunch storage during their visit. Schedules school group visits and trunk rentals. This position works as part of a team of volunteers, interns and staff that is responsible for providing an outstanding experience for school groups that visit the History Colorado Center.


  • Preparing and shipping trunks and artifact kits
  • Field Trip Check-In (greeting, storage carts, schedule)
  • Program Confirmations and Post-Event
  • Preparing and sending Quarterly Education Newsletter
  • Works with volunteers and interns.
  • Tabling at education events and meeting with partners about partners about our K-12 programs.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Program Reservations and Payment (field trips, trunks, History Take-Out)
  • Managing and coordinating Educational Use items (keeping storage rooms clean and organized)
  • Program supply purchasing
  • Coordinate Camp Colorado and other lunch spaces


Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions Of Employment & Appeal Rights


A bachelor’s degree in education or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of education requirements.


Strong customer service skills, desire to work with the public, specifically K-12 audiences.


Familiarity with Google Suite.


Highly Desirable


Familiarity with culturally responsive customer service.


Experience working with volunteers and/or interns.


Ability to adapt strengths and experience to continue, change, or make new procedures.


Effective verbal communication and cooperation with colleagues.


Ability to work efficiently and keep track of numerous projects simultaneously.


Must possess and maintain a valid driver license as a condition of employment.
