Job Description
Manhattan Country School seeks a full-time School Nurse for the 2023-2024 school year.

Manhattan Country School is a pre-K through 8th grade school in New York City that is recognized for its strong academic program, racial and economic diversity, social justice activism, and emphasis on environmental education that features a working farm in the Catskills in Roxbury, New York. The School Nurse is a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) who will be part of a dynamic team of progressive educators working to build and sustain a healthy school environment. They will provide direct care to all students, monitor school health forms, and ensure that the school is in compliance with city and state health mandates. The School Nurse will also be actively involved in health education initiatives and support health and wellness programming for students and families. They will collaborate closely with the support team, division directors, and other administrators. The School Nurse will report to the Director of Operations and Finance.
This is a twelve (12) month position that will begin on August 1, 2023.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Dispenses and store all medication at appropriate temperature levels
  • Evaluates ill and injured students, refer as needed
  • Directs all emergency care in the school community
  • Communicates with appropriate farm staff regarding medical care at the Farm and ensure that medications and forms are in order for farm trips
  • Communicates care plans to staff, administration, families, and students
  • Manages the collection of online health forms in Magnus Health
  • Coordinates Covid-related issues/cases and communications with staff and families
  • Act as the school’s main contact with state and city health departments
  • Informs staff and school community on local, state, and federal health departments’ updates and policy revisions
  • Collects immunization forms, annual state immunization school survey, health records, and other necessary information to ensure the school is in compliance
  • Develops relationships with local healthcare providers—physicians, clinics, hospitals—and relevant health research institutions
  • Promotes a healthy school environment and educates the school community
  • Leads orientation for all staff regarding health policies and medical procedures at the school
  • Monitors student health issues in the school and on local, regional, and national levels

Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Magnus Health Electronic Medical Record preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • New York State RN license in good standing required
  • Bachelor’s degree (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing
  • Experience working in a school or in pediatrics required
  • CPR/AED certification
  • Experience working in diverse communities
  • Working knowledge of Google Suite

This position is covered under the LOC2110 collective bargaining agreement with a salary range of $80,000-$85,000 annually.
