5-6S (Kindergarten) Head Teacher For 2023-2024

Manhattan Country School seeks an experienced, full-time 5-6s (Kindergarten) Head Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year.

The 5-6s Head Teacher is an experienced lower school educator who will teach multiple disciplines, namely social studies, math, and language arts through a hands-on, progressive approach to learning. The candidate will have content knowledge for all subjects and plan collaboratively with their grade-level partners and specialist teachers in order to integrate the curriculum with all disciplines. The 5-6s Head Teacher also incorporates themes of social justice, activism, diversity, equity, and inclusion that align with Manhattan Country School’s mission. The 5-6s Head Teacher will report to the Lower School Director.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Full-time teaching experience with elementary-age children, preferred head teaching experience
• Master’s degree preferred, BA required
• Initiative, sense of humor, and strong communication skills
• Strong knowledge of child development, progressive education, and kindergarten academic content
• Pedagogy and teaching experience that reflect an emphasis on differentiated instruction of an inquiry-based, experiential approach to learning
• Experience interacting with various constituencies of a school community
• Previous experience with TERC, Fundations, and Responsive Classroom are preferred
• Prior experience in a diverse community and working collaboratively to engage youth in community-building, social and environmental justice, and activism is a plus

This position is covered under the LOC2110 collective bargaining agreement with a salary range of $55,000-$89,000 annually.
