Job Responsibilities


It is the responsibility of the Safety Supervisor to support the West Jefferson, OH plant management team with initiatives related to providing safe and healthy work environment as well as ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. This position has the responsibility to comply with safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce safety as a core value. Ensures that all policies, procedures, and activities, related to food safety & quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability.

  • Reports any conditions or practices that may adversely affect employee safety or food safety/quality to management immediately
  • Assumes personal responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adheres to all safety policies/procedures and incorporates safety and health in all job’s duties/tasks
  • Schedules and coordinates required industrial safety testing and monitoring
  • Works with workers compensation carrier as well as third party providers to ensure cost effective and appropriate handling of all workers compensation claims
  • In cooperation with Operations and HR Manager, leads Element 1 and acts as technical resource for all other SRMP teams
  • Identifies unsafe work conditions/practices through workplace audits and takes appropriate action to eliminate these conditions and behaviors.
  • Supports the entire management team in administering appropriate and consistent disciplinary actions for violation of safety rules and policy
  • Attends and actively participates in safety meetings/trainings
  • Ensures compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations (standards) as well as other governmental agencies
  • Adheres to safe work practices, follows GMP’s, maintains sanitary conditions and ensures that product quality is maintained
  • Determines requirements as associated with personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Ensures regulatory compliance at all times
  • Participates in companywide safety and training teams
  • Identifies employee safety training needs with and develops/updates training materials
  • Maintains and updates all written safety programs
  • Actively supports other team members in their efforts to support facilities safety and health programs
  • Maintains/monitors investigation, record keeping and follow up regarding all workplace accidents

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of local, state and federal safety compliance and regulatory issues, including the Occupational Safety and Health Act
  • Top applicants have at least 3+ years of experience in a workplace safety leadership role in a food or beverage manufacturing environment; Candidates with similar experience in an operations or distribution environment will also be considered
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of recent education, training and/or experience in the latest workplace safety standards and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability and experience creating successful workplace safety programs
