Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s North America Safety Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated safety engineer with extensive knowledge around machine safety
The primary responsibility of this role is to balance company-wide operational hoshin priorities with the obligation to team member safety and compliance through the translation of complex safety regulatory interpretations into actionable instructions and development of technically accurate, standardized safety policies, standards, and programs.
The person in this role will support the Toyota Safety department's objective to prioritize safety through standardization, achieve best safety performance, and an incident free workplace.
What you’ll be doing
- Develop business plans and strategies to drive organization improvement for assigned safety programs.
- Lead equipment safety evaluation (Kanban) program. Including training, conducting equipment safety validation, and tracking and reporting on open countermeasure items.
- Lead machine shop safety program by ensuring compliance with regional program.
- Coordinate and lead targeted audits for areas of responsibility within Toyota Safety Management System.
- Provide support as a multi-function SME in safety related functions such as machine & equipment guarding, risk assessment, control of hazardous energy, safety management system, circuitry analysis etc.
- Lead machine risk assessment program by delivering training, participating in assessments, and confirming completion for all equipment within the manufacturing facility.
- Lead control of hazardous energy (Lockout) program including procedure development, training, and audit.
- Coordinate Electrical Safe Work Practices training for all electrically qualified individuals.
- Calculate risks and challenge the status quo with deep analysis of the situation.
What you bring
- Experience in manufacturing, safety, and/or engineering, applicable co-op/internship experience included.
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Safety or Engineering.
- General safety experience for manufacturing, including machine safety, machine guarding, robotics, safety control systems and/or electrical safety.
Added bonus if you have
- Experience developing others in a machine safety/hazardous environment.
- Regulatory Safety compliance experience (must have demonstrated knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, and NFPA Safety requirements).
- Experience with safety systems, regulatory policy interpretation, compliance and equipment engineering.
- Experience with safety systems, regulatory policy interpretation, compliance, and equipment engineering, and Toyota Way methodologies such as Kanban, chemical approvals, etc.).
- Experience installing and maintaining industrial electrical and mechanical equipment
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Safety Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- CSP certification.
- Working knowledge of machine safety and design.
