Job Description

Nights. 36 hours/week.

  • New hires cannot be ex-BCH employee within 6 months.
  • Pay rates set hourly at $85-95 / Hr. Rates are market dependent and will be determined at the time of written offer.
  • Contracts are 26 weeks.
  • Every other Weekend Required.

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides patient care, identifying and implementing nursing interventions and evaluating outcomes. This person is responsible for behaviors and functions outlined in essential duties, personal competency and involvement in quality improvement. Care is provided to ages 13 years and up.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.)

  • Colorado RN license in good standing
  • BLS required.
  • ACLS certification required.
  • NIHSS certification required.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

  • Demonstrated physical and mental health to apply nursing theories, procedures and standards to clinical practice.
  • Cardiac monitor interpretation

Experience

ICU experience required.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

Volunteers, Patient Support Staff

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates and provides nursing care for critically ill or injured patients ages 13 through the lifespan with respect to diversity. In life threatening emergent situations, will provide care for critically injured children with support from physicians, pediatricians, and pediatric nurses until transfer can be done safely. Employees must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for the primary population of patients served in the department. Employees demonstrate the ability to alter care and patient/family education based on the age or developmental level of the patient.
  • Competency in rhythm recognition, ACLS guidelines, hemodynamics, and basic principles of critical care nursing.
  • Assesses patient status systematically, demonstrates critical thinking by anticipating and responding to changes in clinical condition. Works together as a team to meet patient individual plan.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of patient education tools, assesses learning ability and needs then develops an education plan to meet patient and family deficits.
  • May be required to perform point of care testing. May be a point of care trainer.
  • May be required to do moderately complex lab testing.
  • Committed to support patient safety and quality initiatives, ongoing transitions in standards of care as evidence based practice and research mandate change, and adhere to hospital standards for care.
  • Serves at patients and families liaison.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

  • Physical working environment may include, but is not limited to, any of the following hazards: chemicals, electrical, mechanical, biowaste, explosive, radiation, etc.
  • Environmental conditions may include, but not limited to: variations in temperature, noise, odors, etc.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to constantly stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to stoop, crouch and twist. The employee is occasionally required to kneel, squat and sit.
  • The employee must be able to consistently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 10 pounds, frequently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally support, push, pull and/or transfer up to 50 pounds and over (for example, moving a patient from a wheelchair to a bed).
  • Functional physical demands include manual dexterity, fine motor skills and reaching. The following senses will be needed for essential duties of the job: speech, vision, hearing, smell and touch.
