Responsibilities
The House Supervisor provides administrative and nursing leadership for staff involved in the provision of patient care services 24/7 in the hospital and during operational hours in the clinic. The house supervisor provides administrative decision making and assists with coordination of patient flow, patient placement, staff allocation, and other patient services through collaboration with administrative/supervisory staff, physicians, charge nurses and ancillary support staff across all departments.
As the onsite administrative/nurse leadership representative, the house supervisor provides direction and guidance for staff in interpretation/application of policies and procedures, problem solving, utilization and assignment of nursing resources, response to patient/family complaints/concerns and initiation of emergency preparedness plans for any presenting emergency situations.
The House Supervisor assists with patient care in all nursing units as requested.
Qualifications
Graduate of a baccalaureate Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program. Exceptions to this may be made in the MCHS sites prior to a law change requiring accreditation expected in 2018. If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN or CCNE, at least one year of RN experience (within the last five years) in an applicable care setting is required. If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of current LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is required.
Supervisory or Charge Nurse experience preferred. Five years clinical experience preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area. ACLS required within 6 months of hire.
