Job Description
Job Title: Restorative Justice Coordinator (Children, Youth, and Families)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Restorative Justice Coordinator to work with children, youth, and families within the Child Welfare system. As a Restorative Justice Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in promoting healing, resolution, and positive outcomes for children and families involved in the Child Welfare system. You will implement restorative practices, facilitate communication, and provide support to individuals affected by various conflicts and challenges.
Responsibilities:
1. Implement Restorative Practices: Utilize restorative justice principles and methodologies to address conflicts and incidents involving children, youth, and families within the Child Welfare system. Facilitate dialogue and meetings to create opportunities for understanding, empathy, and healing.
2. Support Conflict Resolution: Collaborate with Child Welfare professionals, caregivers, and community members to address conflicts, misunderstandings, and emotional challenges affecting children and families. Help parties involved in incidents to find common ground and develop plans for resolution and growth.
3. Conduct Assessments: Assess the needs and circumstances of children and families in conflict to identify appropriate restorative justice interventions. Gather relevant information, conduct interviews, and analyze situations to make informed decisions.
4. Develop Individualized Plans: Work with individuals and families to develop personalized restorative plans that address the root causes of conflicts and promote positive changes. Ensure that plans align with Child Welfare guidelines and best practices.
5. Facilitate Restorative Meetings: Organize and conduct restorative justice meetings, bringing together affected parties, caregivers, and support networks to foster understanding, accountability, and healing. Maintain a safe and supportive environment during these meetings.
6. Monitor Progress: Regularly monitor the progress of restorative plans, providing ongoing support, coaching, and guidance to children and families. Adjust plans as needed to ensure positive outcomes.
7. Collaboration and Networking: Establish and maintain strong working relationships with Child Welfare agencies, community organizations, schools, and relevant stakeholders to enhance collaboration and access to resources.
8. Training and Education: Offer training sessions and workshops on restorative justice principles and practices for Child Welfare professionals, caregivers, and community members to promote a restorative culture.
9. Data Management: Maintain accurate and confidential records of all restorative justice processes, including case notes, outcomes, and evaluation reports. Ensure compliance with data protection and confidentiality regulations.
Requirements:
1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminology, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
2. Experience: Previous experience in restorative justice, conflict resolution, or working with children, youth, and families within the Child Welfare system is highly desirable.
3. Knowledge: Solid understanding of restorative justice principles, trauma-informed care, Child Welfare policies, and relevant legal regulations.
4. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to facilitate dialogue and interactions between individuals from diverse backgrounds.
5. Empathy and Patience: Demonstrated ability to approach sensitive situations with empathy, patience, and non-judgmental attitude.
6. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess conflicts and develop effective restorative plans.
7. Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to cultural diversity and the ability to work with individuals from various cultural backgrounds.
8. Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport, foster collaboration, and maintain professional relationships.
9. Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing situations, handle multiple tasks, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
10. Certification: Certification or training in restorative justice or mediation is an advantage.
