Job Description


The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Department of Human Services (DHS) merged on July 1, 2022, to form one agency, the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).


Woodward Resource Center (WRC) is seeking Respiratory Therapists to join our team. These are full-time opportunities with starting pay dependent upon experience.


The mission of Woodward Resource Center is to prepare and support individuals to live in the community of their choice. Discharge planning begins at admission.


As Part Of The WRC Team


  • Obtains arterial blood samples for blood gas determinations and/or calculation of other data by using an appropriate blood gas analyzer; performs maintenance, and calibration to insure proper functioning of the blood gas analyzer.
  • Maintain and operate respiratory equipment such as oxygen administration equipment, positive pressure breathing machines, volume limited ventilators, humidifiers, heated nebulizers and accessories. Perform airway management, expired gas analysis and cardiopulmonary resuscitation as required.
  • Deliver and administer patient respiratory care interventions and treatments including initiation of ventilatory support, delivery of aerosolized medications, implementation and maintenance of protocols approved by medical staffing. Monitors and assess breath sounds and vital signs.
  • Participates in clinical data reviews, clinical case reviews. and peer reviews as assigned. Complies with all in-service training requirements according to facility policy. Completes clinical research tasks. e.g., retrospective chart reviews as assigned.
  • Administers respiratory therapy to patients with varied cardiopulmonary diseases. Administers aerosolized cardiopulmonary medications such as steroids, antibiotics, bronchodilators, enzymes, mucolytics, detergents, wetting agents and anti-forments.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team, including Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Resident Treatment Workers, Educators, Activities Specialists, Psychologists, and Social Workers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Attends staff meetings and committee meetings as assigned. Attends interdisciplinary meetings, daily meetings, Quarterly Integrative Rounds (QIRs) and Individual Support Plan (ISP) meetings as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements


A license or temporary license to practice respiratory care as issued by the Iowa Board of Respiratory Care;


OR


graduation from an approved respiratory care training program. Graduates may work up to one year as a "respiratory care practitioner licensure applicant" prior to being licensed.
