Research Technician

Med-Pediatrics - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (23002862)
Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and microsurgical procedures and prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.
Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement. This position is located at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment. Essential Functions • Performs a variety of laboratory experiments such as histology, flow cytometry, molecular techniques, gene sequencing, and related technical functions, testing, troubleshooting, and analysis, including microsurgical procedures, and ensuring conformity to specifications. • Identifies and prepares specimens. • Oversees supply management: ordering, procurement, tracking estimates, and receiving items. • Operates and maintains applicable laboratory equipment for job functions. • Keeps detailed, accurate, and timely data and log books. Organizes and documents results. • Maintains, calibrates, cleans, and tests sterility of laboratory equipment. • Recruits patients and performs phlebotomy to collect blood samples from study participants.
Physical Effort Light – maximum lifting of up to 20 lbs., with frequent lifting/carrying of up to 10 lbs., or a negligible amount. Significant walking or standing may be required or may involve sitting with a degree of pushing and pulling.
