Job Description

The Innovation and Development Division (IDD) drives the innovation strategy for the Hubs and Operations, and contributes to the Group's transformation. It is responsible for imagining, developing and incubating new solutions until they are brought to market, particularly when it comes to offers with a high technological content (including digital and IT). IDD gathers more than 3,000 employees from 70 nationalities at 60 sites.

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

American Air Liquide R&D is actively seeking a Hydro-metallurgical Engineer to be located in Newark, Delaware, USA.

Responsibilities:

  • Mine site pollution control by removing heavy/toxic metals
  • Green technology development and implementation for mining and metallurgical industries
  • Contribute to the strategy, formulation, and support of new innovations in processing ores using industrial gases.
  • Work closely with internal market groups, academic associations, industry partners and customers.
  • Serve as a safety role model, maintaining high safety standards and promoting improvements.
  • Support technical transfer of R&D projects to customers; coordinate with contractors and partners as needed to complete work packages.
  • Leverage hydrometallurgical engineering expertise to serve as technical lead in metals recovery topics within the organization to drive innovation and technology improvements.
  • As a researcher, the individual will perform the following responsibilities:
  • Define, build, and execute research experiments and associated analytics.
  • Process enhancements, developments and technology improvements in pressure hydrometallurgy
  • Work with R&D team to execute and complete project deliverables.
  • Apply engineering principles to design and evaluate technologies.
  • This hydrometallurgical engineer will be responsible for projects supporting the mining and metals extraction markets, for example:

Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a strong understanding of extractive metallurgy processes and customer needs/challenges in mining and metals extraction industries.
  • Experience with appropriate engineering tools, process models, and thermodynamic simulators (e.g. OLI, METSIM) for process analysis and development is expected. Individuals are expected to have strong links to academia, professional associations, and industry.
  • Candidate is expected to have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Peer reviewed publications or patents to demonstrate their capabilities will be a plus. A technical career ladder exists for scientists/engineers to progress their career based on expertise.
  • Must be a self-starter, highly motivated, and work well in a multidisciplinary group.
  • Candidate must have direct industry experience in several of the following topics: bioleaching, pressure oxidation (POX, HiPOX), atmospheric/high pressure leaching, oxygen transfer, flotation, aqueous chemistry.
  • M.S. with minimum 5 years experience or PhD with industry experience in relevant scientific field of hydrometallurgical/mining/chemical engineering.
  • Ability to innovate and generate potential patents in their area of expertise are expected traits of a researcher, with demonstrated ability to bring innovations, improvements, and process modifications from concept to reality. Individual should be results-driven while being flexible and able to adapt to changing conditions/priorities.
