The group of Prof. Emilia Morosan (morosan.rice.edu) in Physics and Astronomy at Rice University has an opening for a research scientist position.This is a six-year, renewable position, available immediately to scientists with a minimum of 3 years experience past PhD, holding a PhD degree inPhysics, Chemistry or Materials Science.

A creative, independent and self-motivated researcher would help catalyze our condensed matter group’s efforts in quantum materials.

Morosan lab is focused on design and discovery of novel materials, with emphasis on emergent phenomena. These include unconventional topological fermions (skyrmions, Kramers-Weyl, multi-degenerate, etc.),superconductivity and density waves,all flavors of magnetism (local and itinerant moment, Kondo and heavy fermions), complex structures involving 2D transition metal chalcogenides,as well as exotic phenomena resulting from competing phases,e.g.quantum criticality. The synthetic efforts are complemented by advanced thermodynamic, transport and spectroscopic characterization techniques.

The successful candidate will be closely collaborating with the principal investigators in the condensed matter group in setting the research agenda, while also participating in mentoring the graduate and undergraduate students and postdocs. Candidates must have a good understanding of basic materials characterization, such as x-ray diffraction, thermodynamic and transport measurements.
