Position Summary
The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Research Nutritionist to join our team in a full time position within the division of Gastroenterology under the Child Research in Obesity Prevention Program (CROP). Columbia University Irving Medical Center’s Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. We offer care for our patients in over 25 specialty areas as well as individualized care for complex cases. Our Residency, Fellowship and Graduate programs are among the best in the Nation. Our Clinical, Translational and Basic Science research features collaborations across specialties and stretches from the bench to bedside. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by developing and facilitating novel interventions to promote maternal-infant and child/family health starting early in life.
Responsibilities
- Develops and institutes capacity-building strategies for study subject and provider engagement in research.
- Collaborates with health specialists and community groups to determine community health needs and the availability of services to meet these needs.
- Provides program information to the public conducting media campaigns, and/or maintaining program-related web sites as needed.
- Leads and facilitates group sessions and disseminates health education materials as per study protocol and schedule, either virtually or in person.
- Helps facilitate other clinical and community-based participatory research.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) research nutritionist will work with the study team to develop curricula, educational materials, messages, workshops, and programming for clinical trials/interventions to reduce obesity risk factors in pregnancy, infancy, and childhood.
- Conducts one-on-one sessions with study participants as needed.
- Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.
- Works with senior level staff and research team (i.e. administrators, directors, chiefs, clinicians, clinical research coordinators) to develop and prepare health and nutrition education materials, including reports, bulletins, and visual aids such as films, videotapes, photographs, and posters, in full accordance to study protocol and schedule.
- Develops operational plans and policies necessary to achieve health and nutrition education objectives and services.
- Maintains a positive relationship with the study team, clinical staff, and participants, and acts as a study resource.
- Coordinates with research team and study participants to implement individual and group health education and coaching sessions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience required; plus three years of related experience.
- Minimum Education requirement (1.5 years of related experience for each year of education may be used to fulfill education requirements.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in dietary and behavioral counseling in clinical settings and/or community-based lifestyle interventions (such as WIC, MEND, or DPP).
- Working knowledge of REDCap.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Higher education in nutrition or related field.
- Licensed as Registered Dietitian or Certified Dietitian/Nutrition.

- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Some early morning, weekend, or evening hours may be required.
- Ability to work remotely or in a general office environment.
- Motivated and flexible, able to work independently.
