The Department of Psychology at Rutgers University – Newark (RU-N) is made up of world-class experts in development, perceptual, social, psychology, and cognitive neuroscience. Members of our department engage in research collaborations that cross departments, campuses, institutions, and countries, engaging with and serving the greater Newark area, providing invaluable hands-on lab experience to undergraduates, and fostering student involvement in research. Posting Summary


Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Research Manager. This position manages and/or coordinates day-to-day operations for the Child Study Center.


This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:


  • Contributes to the laboratory’s research efforts, including preparing manuscripts, and gathering and assembling reference information and relevant literature, using a variety of resources
  • Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced, campus-community responsive environment with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the Child Study Center, SASN , and RU-N, and the role the tasks and responsibilities of this position play in the achievement of these goals.
  • Manages the Institutional Review Board ( IRB ), laboratory data, grant budgets, administrative operations, and the management and supervision of undergraduate research assistants
  • Recruits participants crucial to the operations of the Child Study Center and creates, develops, expands, and maintains productive relationships with local community organizations, including schools, libraries, and hospitals, locations where recruitment takes place and where new recruitment efforts can be focused
  • Primary point-of-contact and liaison between the Child Study Center and study participants, developing outreach materials, coordinating researchers’ testing schedules, scheduling and interviewing test participants, contacting prospective participants, and maintaining a database of qualified participants

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience


  • Excellent communication skills and computer literacy.
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • OR -
  • Requires a minimum of five years experience and/or increasing functional responsibility in a leadership/managerial role. With a master’s degree requirement, a minimum of three years of related experience is acceptable.
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education/experience in the discipline. A master’s degree in a specialized discipline may be required, particularly in research, project management or managerial positions.
  • Requires a minimum of three to five years of relevant professional experience in an administrative and/or supervisory function, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.

Equipment Utilized
  • Position regularly uses MS Office Suite, Cornerstone, Box, RedCap, RAPSS , ECRT , and knows or will learn any and all systems RU uses for IRB , laboratory management, data management and storage, grant submission, recruitment, facilities and space scheduling and management, event management, website and social media maintenance and updates, and know or will learn all equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position.


Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Fast-paced, community-focused, team environment. Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends. Requires travel to event, partner, and community sites.
