Description


To support research projects and contribute to development projects related to orthopaedic implants, instruments, and software.


Key Responsibilities


  • Support completion of Design History File documentation as appropriate.
  • Assist and support other employees, teams, and sales personnel as necessary.
  • Assist with multiple research projects related to orthopedic implants, instruments, and software via collaboration with both internal and external team members. Potential areas include biomechanics, clinical research, computational modeling, experimental/bench testing, etc.
  • Collect medical/scientific evidence to support launched products and innovation of new products.
  • Continually self-educate on state-of-the-art devices and techniques by reviewing pertinent research in the academic literature and attending conferences.
  • Assure timely and effective research project completion.
  • Contribute to submission of publications (manuscripts, white papers, abstracts) in support of research initiatives.
  • Serve as liaison between engineering and development and cross-functional teams and/or subject matter expert in support of regulatory submissions, device safety/performance, CAPAs, complaint investigations, and device non-conformances.
  • Support content generation for medical education events focused on scientific evidence.
  • Know and apply the Quality System and any appropriate Federal and International standards.
  • Work in partnership with key surgeon and/or academic investigators to support research initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to drive strategic research initiatives.


Skills Knowledge And Expertise


Education:


  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in an engineering or health-related field from an accredited institution required; Master's Degree preferred.


Experience:


  • Must have a basic understanding of theoretical technical principles, methods and practices in the following areas: orthopaedic research (pre-clinical and clinical), biomechanics, technical/scientific writing, statistical methods, mechanical testing of implants, experimental and computational modeling techniques.
  • Experience with scientific research projects, peer-reviewed publications, and conference presentations is highly preferred.
  • Experience with or knowledge of medical device design within regulated industry.


Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:


  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must have ability to support multiple research and development projects simultaneously.
  • Must have understanding and ability to analyze complex data to support the development of peer-reviewed publications and scientific evidence reports.
  • Travel 5-10%
  • To fully meet team responsibilities, the individual will develop additional knowledge and skills in anatomy and physiology, especially as related to the musculo-skeletal system, fundamentals of orthopedic surgery (major joints), computer aided design, FDA/ISO requirements, project management, orthopedic implants and the materials used in orthopedic implants and instruments.
  • Must be creative and have the ability to independently apply theoretical technical principles to research studies and/or product design.
  • Must have excellent communication (verbal & written) and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of various software packages utilized for research and design purposes, e.g. Microsoft Office, CAD applications, MATLAB, etc., is a plus.
