Working under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, the person in this position will conduct studies designed to validate, using human auditory perceptual testing, a battery of acoustic metrics that will be leveraged for efficient evaluation and development of hearing protection devices. This job involves coordination of research studies, recruitment of subjects, data collection and statistical analysis, and assisting in the preparation of manuscripts and presentation at major conferences.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
I. Research Duties
Perform audiometric tests (including pure tone audiometry, tympanometry, middle ear reflex responses, and evoked potentials), and custom auditory perceptual tests (e.g., sound source localization). Recruit and screen research subjects. Work to meet targeted/planned enrollment goals, develop recruitment materials that encourage participation from important subject populations both on UW campus and in the community at large. Perform data post-processing; perform basic statistical analyses on the research data to identify critical gaps, exceptional results, and/or lack of progress. In collaboration with the Principal Investigator, evaluate and modify as-needed protocol-specific standard operating procedures. Perform acoustic measurements, including equipment calibrations. Serve as a liaison and point of contact for multi-site research studies. Review relevant literature, assist with preparation of progress reports and scientific manuscripts, and assist with presentation of result at national and international research conferences. Facilitate planning and coordination of research team meetings, and maintain open communication with the Principal Investigator. Supervise or co-supervise and train student(s) to assist with these projects.
II. Administrative Responsibilities
Maintain a database of subject contacts. Maintain accurate accounting records related to subjects’ payments. Track subject visit schedules to ensure compliance with protocol requirements. Maintain all applicable regulatory documents In collaboration with the PI, draft IRB applications and reports as well as progress reports for the Department of Defense. Lead and implement development of programs/projects and participate in major proposal preparation and presentations. Promote open communication, accountability and positive, professional relationships with PI and collaborators. Perform related duties as required
REQUIREMENTS
  • Doctor of Audiology (AuD).
  • Experience conducting modern audiometric tests.
  • Experience working in a team setting, with strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience liaising with auditory scientists, audiologists and research subjects/patients with a professional demeanor.
    DESIRED
  • At least one year of experience in clinical audiology.
  • Experience in statistical analysis.
  • Experience preparing manuscripts.
  • Author or coauthor on scientific publications.
  • Experience in supervision or management in audiology or research.
  • Computer programming experience
  • Ability to exercise substantial autonomy, independent judgment, and decision-making authority. Technical guidance will be given on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects will be required.
  • Working hours generally coincide with normal business hours, but evening or weekend work (e.g., to accommodate subject availability) may occasionally be required. A proportion of the job responsibilities may be conducted while working remotely (e.g., from home).
