Research Analyst (Full Time)

1870 Ventures is seeking a highly motivated and analytical individual to join our team as a Research Analyst. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research, analyzing data and financial statements, and supporting deal-making processes in the Health & Life Sciences & Electrification sectors. The Research Analyst will gain in-depth exposure to venture investing and management as well as a variety of technology platforms and start-ups.

Responsibilities include:

• Team Mapping
• Conduct full tech scoping including: architecture, infrastructure, scalability, workflow, IP, data quality and security
• Contribute insights to shape sector thesis alongside Investment Team
• Conduct business analysis
• Participate in weekly internal meetings to discuss new pipeline opportunities and portfolio companies
• Financial Analysis
• Analyze current and past financial data and performance (review financial statements, tracking key metrics and forecasting future performance)
• Prepare reports and decks for Investment Team
• Evaluate current product offerings and tech roadmap
• Perform extensive industry and sector research focused in Health & Life Sciences and Electrification areas
• Communicate complex ideas simply. Assist the Investment Team in translating complex financial and technological analysis into simple and high-quality communication for investors (origination, DD report, quarterly reporting, etc.)
• Tech Assessment
• Monitor the performance of existing investments and provide regular updates to the team
• Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices
• Competitive Landscape/Market Segment
• Conduct financial modeling and deal structuring for opportunities
• Review current organizational chart and future roadmap
• Participate in all aspects of research and due diligence on new opportunities, including:
• Develop and maintain internal databases and infrastructure

Requirements

• Clear understanding of the startup ecosystem and emerging technologies
• Outstanding communication skills - both written and oral
• This position will be in person/on site at the 1870 Ventures office located in Columbus, OH
• Creative problem-solving mindset with the ability to tackle various projects in a fast-paced environment
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills with attention to detail
• 0-5 years of experience in venture capital, private equity, business, finance, and/or startups preferred
• Excellent computer skills, including Excel and Google Workspace Apps
• Undergraduate degree in engineering, computer science, economics, data analytics, STEM or economics preferred
• Deep interest in technology, entrepreneurship and and early-stage capital-raising activity

Benefits

• $60,000 - $90,000
• Additional compensation (annual bonus, equity participation) available based on performance
