Job Description
  • Securian Financial Groups internal position title is Reporting & Analytics Analyst
Job Summary:
The group insurance market requires complex solutions to fulfill the needs and objectives of our clients. As a result of this environment, a high level of technical expertise, creativity, innovation, and service orientation are key to remaining a viable contender in a very competitive market.
The Group division - and the insurance industry in general - is making a transformative change in the way data is analyzed and reported. We are moving to big data, analytics, and predictive modeling to increase our ability to access, analyze and provide information.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Work alongside IT developers during Group system development and enhancements to determine reporting needs and develop solutions.
  • Develop advanced analytical tools and reporting.
  • Gather business requirements, design, develop and test reporting solutions of advanced complexity using the appropriate software tool/language such as Business Objects Web, SQL, Hadoop, Tableau, mainframe SAS, SharePoint, and emerging technology solutions. Coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT), report training and provide documentation to associates.
  • Make reports available through Centralized Reporting.
Qualifications:
  • Technical aptitude to learn a variety of software tools and technologies (i.e., Business Objects Web, SQL, VBA Excel macros, Hadoop, Tableau).
  • High degree of initiative and independence to analyze, detect and resolve data discrepancies, develop, and enhance technology solutions, meet deadlines, and prioritize an ever-changing workload.
  • Leadership and organizational skills to provide training and work direction to team members, facilitate requirements, and to help Group business areas develop and manage their Reporting Roadmaps.
  • Communication skills to work with all level of Group and IT associates, including strong writing skills to create technical documentation.
Physical job requirements:
  • Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse and computer for up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week
  • Ability to utilize telephone for up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to perform grasping tasks throughout the entire work day (examples: handwriting, grasping of equipment/machines, paper manipulation, sorting, folding, handling stacks of paper)
