Job Description
SUMMARY:


Under the general supervision of the VP of Sales and Estimating and in accordance with established standards, the Estimator is primarily responsible for preparing USAM’s project bids and proposals based on estimated materials costs, labor costs and project specifications.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Project Estimating


  • Lands the minimum goal of work set by the VP of Sales and Estimating each year.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key customers.
  • Based on materials and labor costs, prepares, and transmits detailed project proposals, including all work to be performed and excluded work within pre-established and committed time frames.
  • Lands projects that close out at or above bid contribution margin.
  • Completes takeoffs for all millwork and casework items, by room and elevation.
  • Provides weekly updates to the VP of Sales and Estimating with high win confidence bids.
  • Reviews and marks up architectural plans using Bluebeam for millwork and casework projects.
  • Creates required “Requests for Information” (RFI’s) from/for the general contractor.
  • Communicates with vendors, customers, and contractors as necessary to ensure accurate estimates.
  • Consistently delivers high quality customer service, both responding to inquiries in a timely manner as well as keeping the customers’ need as top priority.
  • Bids and budgets projects of all complexity with any level of architectural drawings.
  • Problem-solves with customers and contractors and participates in job walks, as necessary.
  • Performs follow up with customers per USAM standards
  • Reviews architectural plans for specialty materials and sub-contract items to be priced and obtains quotes as necessary.


Administrative


  • Enters required information in computer to create bids and proposals.
  • Maintains files (including marking and labeling plans) consistent with USAM estimating standards.
  • Facilitates continuous learning via thorough review and recap of completed projects with the project team
  • Partners with team members in project team to ensure quality outcomes


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Qualification Requirements


  • 2 plus years of millwork estimating and sales experience
  • Ability to work without direct supervision, and efficiently manage tasks and time
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Bluebeam
  • Possess an understanding of estimating cabinet projects and millwork as well as products such as ornamental metal, stainless steel, wood, glass, stone, and solid surfaces (i.e. Corian)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have great accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, similar, or relevant years of experience
  • Ability to read architectural drawings, specs and scope sheets required


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand, as necessary. This role may also require walking the shop floor daily.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in a typical office environment and occasionally works on or near the shop floor where there may be moving mechanical parts with occasional exposure to the risk of electrical shock, outdoor weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally high.
  • This position offers remote working however would require occasional office visits for training or scope reviews/presentations with clients when needed for important jobs.
