General Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of pediatric patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to patients via the therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment and instrumentation, and other health care team members.
To provide direct and indirect patient care to clinic patients and their families utilizing the nursing processes of comprehensive patient assessment, development and implementation of nursing care plans and patient education, and on-going evaluation.
Qualifications:
- Excellent written and oral modes of interpersonal communication.
Licensure:
- Maintains BLS and ACLS certification.
- Current Registered Nurse California.
Experience:
- Minimum of two years pediatric care experience preferred.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive status; also, nutrition, pain, patient/family education, family involvement, and patient advocacy
- Demonstrates proficiency in the use of computers and telecommunication modalities in documenting, tracking, and conveying information
- Provides/coordinates care for patients/patient populations
- Formulates a goal-directed plan of care that is prioritized and based on determined nursing diagnosis and patient outcomes
- Delegates tasks to subordinates based on the legal scope of practice of the subordinates and on the preparation and capability needed in the tasks to be delegated.
- Demonstrates knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management in all aspects of patient care and unit functioning
- Utilizes effective communication methods and skills, following lines of authority, as appropriate
- Demonstrates sound knowledge base and actions in the care of a designated patient population
- Identifies patient/family learning needs and acts to meet them
- Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional practice
- Documents patient care and unit activities in a timely, accurate, and concise manner
- Identifies patient/family learning needs and implements appropriate measures
- Demonstrates knowledge of and applies safety principles as identified within the institution
- Identifies and solves problems effectively
- Consistently demonstrates the ability to transfer scientific knowledge from social, biological, and physical sciences in applying the nursing process to ensure quality patient care.
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the position.
- Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to patient/family rights, age-specific needs, cultural and ethical beliefs
- Perform all other duties as required or assigned.
- Performs efficiently in emergency patient care situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events
- Demonstrates clinical expertise by serving as a clinical expert, role model, and clinical and educational resource to the team, patients, and families. May act as a mentor and assist in the training and development of less experienced staff members.
- Demonstrates leadership by directing and delegating appropriately to care, team members.
- Demonstrates a service philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team
- Formulates a goal-directed plan of care when and where appropriate to do so
- Implements care in a thorough, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner
- Establishes effective working relationships with members of the healthcare team, patients, and families
- Perform other related duties as necessary
- Demonstrates professional accountability for nursing practice.
