Job Description
Summary
The Registered Nurse is responsible for performing general nursing duties relating to public health to include assisting with clinic treatment, procedures, and programs. Assignments vary and require knowledge of specific departmental procedures and practices of varying complexity and interpretation. Works under varied levels of supervision. Job Responsibilities
General Nursing Duties:
Answer incoming calls to the health department.
Schedule/re-schedule appointments.
Assume personal responsibility to keep informed of current nursing changes affecting professional nurse functions.
Keep accurate daily log of time spent on current programs.
Examine and authenticate vaccine records.
Screen and evaluate patients who are seen for walk-in services.
Supervise and review charts, provide coaching and training to new registered nurse.
Correspondence with community partners regarding various communicable disease or rabies investigations, as well as community outreach.
Communicate with individuals/businesses in county re: current recommendations/testing, etc.
Change computer tapes for electronic storage information technology.
Assume personal responsibility to keep informed of current nursing changes affecting professional nurse functions.
Record medical history and symptoms.
Notify clients of results from testing.
Create report for communicable disease program as it relates to prevalence and investigations completed.
Perform weekly inventory of vaccine count.
Inventory and order contraception for well-woman services.
Inventory and order pap smear, STD testing supplies, and general supplies.
Gating criteria review.
CDRR work plan action steps and work plans.
Oversight and monthly meetings with staff working on CDRR grant activities.
Prepare monthly CDRR reporting to KDHE CHS.
Submit quarterly tracking sheet for supply distribution to KDHE on STI/HPV prevention program manager.
COVID-19:
Participate in daily webinars with KDHE/ other local health departments.
Receive and review new cases in EpiTrax. Document cases in EpiTrax.
Phone interview new cases and follow up on current cases.
Order lab for cases.
File completed cases.
Monitor refrigerator vaccine temperatures and record log for KDHE.
Assist in case investigation and contact tracing of COVID-19 cases.
Participate in weekly webinars with KDHE.
Facilitate COVID-19 testing clinics.
Addressing questions/concerns from public regarding public health and COVID-19-related activities.
Epidemiological case and contact investigation.
Correspondence with laboratories and physician offices, as well as KDHE and KHEL.
Screening Procedures and Health Programs:
Cover evening walk-in clinic every Wednesday; including but not limited to services related to tuberculin skin testing, injections, head lice check, pregnancy tests, general exam and counseling, blood pressure and blood sugar, etc.
Manage bi-weekly Women's Healthcare Program including but not limited to assembling client charts, check, and order supplies, set up clinic exam rooms and equipment, wash and dry procedural gowns, assist practitioner as needed, with exams, dispense contraceptives, administer injections as ordered, package and fill forms for well-woman exams and sexually transmitted infection testing, and submission of specimens to Kansas Health and Environmental Laboratories.
Responsible for re-ordering medications and supplies related to Women's Healthcare Program.
Assists in the Chronic Disease Risk Reduction grant activities related to Second and Third hand smoke work-plans. Work including, but not limited to conducting background research including state and local smoke-free requirements for childcare organizations, identifying early childcare organizations in Miami County, and finding contact information for each, locating policies regarding tobacco-use within the facility, reaching out to providers/organizations for training, education to promote policy, systems and environmental change.
Email daily correspondence with Special Healthcare Needs Program staff.
Administer maintenance injections for mental health clients, as ordered.
Administer B12 injections, allergy injections etc., as ordered.
Submit monthly report of clients seen for immunizations, tuberculin skin tests, family planning, adult health etc.
Assist with flu-clinics and administration of flu vaccine in-house and out-lying clinics and buildings within the county.
Provide education to the community with regard to chronic disease prevention activities.
Manage Foster Grandparent Program annual physicals/exams; including, but not limited to hemoglobin, blood pressure, medication review, past medical history collection, vaccines, pulse, lung auscultation, urinalysis, and general counseling; complete accurate documentation in client chart and make referrals, as necessary.
Supervisory duties related to Healthy Start Home Visitor program and clients; make visits as necessary and answer questions.
Coverage of Immunization Clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as needed; administer adult and pediatric vaccines and tuberculin skin tests; read tuberculin skin testing.
Provide emotional support and resource allocation, referrals etc. to Special Healthcare Needs Program.
Perform Kan-Be-Healthy physical assessments, vision and hearing screens, ear and throat checks, etc.
Other Duties:
Periodically assist director with grant applications and budgetary requirements.
Attend required meetings and prepare quarterly reports with regard to grants awarded
Participate in required in-service meetings, webinars, and training.
Fulfill requests for various community outreach services.

Experience: A minimum of 1 year experience in public or equivalent experience in nursing.
Education: High School diploma GED, graduation from an accredited nursing program
