What Will You Be Doing?*
If you are a student with solid verbal communication skills, comfortable with systems driven work, and interested in a job that allows you to help others, then you should join the EAW Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (BCBSAZ) Team as a Customer Care Phone Specialist.
Using your ability to show empathy, understanding and concern, you will assist with customer inquiries concerning their BCBSAZ account. This position has an emphasis on excellence, privacy, compliance, and versatility within the health insurance industry.
Specific Responsibilities
- Demonstrate and maintain current working knowledge of the required BCBSAZ systems, procedures, forms and manuals.
- Answer a diverse and high volume of health insurance related customer calls and correspondence daily.
- Customer Care: Identify, research, process, resolve and respond to customer inquiries and correspondence via telephone
- Meet quality, quantity, and timeliness standards to achieve individual and department performance goals as defined within the department guidelines.
- Member Advocate: Explain to customers a variety of information concerning the organization’s services, including but not limited to, contract benefits, changes in coverage, eligibility, claims, BCBSAZ programs, provider networks, etc.
- Document and record facts regarding inquiries and correspondence by updating BCBSAZ files and system.

- Students who are able to work year round – including the school breaks including summer and winter break
- Student who possess a passion for and find gratitude in helping others
- Students who are patient communicators and comfortable speaking with people over the phone to identify, research, process, resolve, and respond to customer inquiries
- Student who are responsible and able to handle a professional job in a business environment–this includes punctuality/attendance expectations, receptive to consistent feedback and coaching, and adaptability with a positive attitude, etc.
- Students who attend Arizona State University and have a 3.0 GPA
- Students who are able to work at least 20 hours per week – with the opportunity to work more hours per week during the school year and up to 39 hours during school breaks
- Students who want to provide customer support covering a wide range of topics and are able to quickly pick up and retain new concepts

What’s Not So Perky About Our Positions
- BCBS holds our students to a high standard of customer service – meaning you’ll have high metrics that we’ll work with you to meet
- We have strict attendance and punctuality expectations – this is a professional job and we’ll hold you to that
- Not everyone calls into customer support when things are going great - occasionally you’ll need to assist a frustrated customer calls could be 30-45 minutes long
- We’re a PCI Compliant Area – meaning that in your work space you won’t be able to have any paper, pens, electric devices like cell phones or smart watches – but you will have access to those personal items on breaks or lunches
- Not only do we work around your class schedule, but we also work around all of our students class schedules – this means we don’t always have the ability to work around other obligations (club meetings, social events, second jobs, internships, etc.) and expect you to make this job a primary part of your life (second to school – of course)
- Since this is a phone/chat position, you may be sitting down for the majority of your shift, ranging from 2 to 8 hours
