Provides functional direction for specified Laboratory areas, functional domains and clinical sections. Actively participates in the financial, physical and human resources allocation and utilization in collaboration with the Administrative Laboratory Director and/or Medical Director as appropriate.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
  • Acts as liaison to contracted clients; preparing and sending monthly billing reports.
  • Responsible for writing and updating standard operating procedures.
  • Ensures the validity, timeliness and accuracy of test results to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Ensures that testing is performed adhering to safety policies.
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining sufficient inventory of supplies.
  • Responsible for coordinating new employee orientation and training of students as well as training in new technical procedures in accordance to approved SOP.
  • Strives to achieve excellence of service as described in the CARE Commitments.
  • Oversees that the Laboratory maintains compliance with all regulations and standard operating procedures required by all appropriate Inspecting/Accrediting agencies.
  • Recommends and assists in the development and evaluation of new procedures and/or instrumentation for this area(s).
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Updates and maintains General Laboratory policies and procedure manuals to include latest regulatory requirements.
  • Decides course of action for delays or issues.
  • Maintains employee files and reviews all competency and training records in conjunction to preparing annual performance evaluations for Administrative Director’s review.
  • Ensures payment of service contracts, licenses, accreditations and other fees are completed within the appropriate timeframe to avoid expiration.
  • Responds to Shore Health System Code Red and Code Pink in the immediate area.
  • Performs/assists with troubleshooting of procedures, reagents and equipment.
  • Ensures a safe working environment and that staff are aware and adhere to the safety policies and procedures especially the hospital’s Universal Precautions and Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  • Prepares daily and monthly work schedules, monitors workflow patterns for efficient delivery of service with a minimum of overtime.
  • Oversees analysis of proficiency testing and investigates unacceptable results.
  • Participates in the cost analysis of test procedures.
  • Performs personnel functions such as interviewing, hiring, reviewing personnel evaluations, counseling, and carrying out discipline procedures in accordance with Human Resources policies and in conjunction with the Administrative Director.
  • Analytical:
  • Oversees clinical testing in specialty area(s) in a self-directed manner to include:
  • Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.
  • Prepares site budget for Administrative Director’s review and approval.
  • Responsible for workplace preparedness for disasters and emergencies to ensure continuity of services, including back-up procedures.
  • Member of Laboratory Quality Assurance Committee that evaluates the QA program for effectiveness through monthly submission of incidence reports and other statistics.
  • Responsible for honest behavior in all matters. To the best of the employee’s knowledge and understanding, complies with all Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Provides, develops, monitors and reviews quality control program and submits data for inter-laboratory monthly evaluation.
  • Promotes employee engagement and satisfaction by motivating high performers and proactively identifying and resolving employee issues, informing Administrative Director and/or Medical Director as appropriate.
  • Develops and maintains an ongoing customer feedback process to ensure market retention and customer satisfaction.
  • Develops implements, maintains and evaluates key indicators of laboratory quality that determine lab performance against goals and standards.
  • Post-analytical:
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance programs for instruments in conjunction with service representatives and maintains service records.


Qualifications


MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:


  • A Minimum of five years of laboratory experience with experience in the area of functional clinical section is required.
  • Demonstrate a record of excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills.
  • Medical Technologist ASCP certified or equivalent.
  • The employee in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the age of the patients served.
  • Must demonstrate compliance with applicable federal, state and local professional requirements.
  • He/she must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status, to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the necessary care as described in the department’s policies and procedures.
  • A Bachelor’s degree with a major in medical technology or equivalent is required; Graduate degree in Business or Sciences helpful.
