R&D Specialist III (Transformation Production - Plant Biotechnology)

Join our team and work collaboratively with lab team members to ensure quality, on-time and within budget delivery of constructs, explants, transgenic plants, and media in support of Bayer’s trait product pipeline.

Your Tasks And Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role, R&D Specialist III (Transformation Production – Plant Biotechnology), are:

• Maintains detailed record keeping and required documentation;
• Initiates data capture and interprets KPIs/metrics to monitor and report out on any issues as well as identify opportunities for improvement;
• Solves problems autonomously using multiple data sources;
• Adheres to established protocols and techniques;
• Communicates lab related issues to partners and key stakeholders.
• Operates and troubleshoots instrumentation;
• Prioritizes and coordinates work;
• Provides and demonstrates technical proficiency of cell biology, media and explant processes across the major row crops including corn, soy, cotton, and canola to enable delivery of daily/weekly targets;
• Achieves commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols and best practices;
• Accountable for cross-functional work for plugging and sampling;

Required Qualifications:

• Proven ability to lead through influence to deliver results on established timelines through people leadership or project teams;
• Thrives on meeting challenges, insists on high quality deliverables, demonstrates effective problem-solving skills, and shows initiative both individually and in teams.
• Proficiency with Excel and laboratory management systems (such as LIMS or similar);
• Knowledge of ISO and quality considerations through workflow operations/management;
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills to work as part of a team and across functions in a dynamic work environment;
• Master’s degree OR Bachelor’s degree;
• Prior experience utilizing data visualization tools or applications such as Spotfire or other similar software and ability to troubleshoot multiple data applications;

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior controlled environment experience such as greenhouse and/or growth chamber.
• Prior experience with Plant tissue culture of row crop species and Agrobacterium-mediated plant transformation;
• Five or more yeas of relevant experience (including both industrial and academic experience post undergrad);
• Experience operating and troubleshooting custom automation;
